Why isn’t Cheri on the list? Isn’t that released 10/20?

This is the one MAJOR issue Redbox has is they still don’t bring in all of the New Releases they should. Short term it is not an issue. But when Redbox starts controlling more market share, they must bring in all titles each week that had theatrical box office and major direct to DVD titles like Cheri and Wrong Turn 3 this week.

I called redbox about Wrong Turn 3. They told me that since it is ONLY available UNRATED they don’t bring it in.

        I didnt ask about Cheri….

That is not true about not carrying it due to the unrated content. They carried Last House on the Left-2009 and it was only released in the unrated version. And Drag Me to Hell has an unrated cut on the dvd along with the pg-13.

            funny you mentioned that
I thought the same thing but figured maybe its because they got those out elsewhere…they are both Universal

I’ll just wait until the 27th for:

      Whatever Works

and hope Redbox makes good on it claim to have it available.

I think any older movie which shows up in Redbox in any quantity is a recent rerelease, and Sony stopped releasing Superbit some time ago. Though it was mostly marketing, all they did was go light on the extras and use double layer DVDs. Many new releases do that nowadays anyway,

Thanks for your reply. I should have been clearer; I was being *sarcastic*!

Superbit was targeted primarily to PAL and SECAM regions–Europe and Asia.

maybe they are getting it as an exclusive. They advertised a few titles like that before…I think a Sid the Science Kid a month or so ago…

Hmmm, I wonder if the date moved out at some point. Checking around my usual websites that show release dates, only one (Amazon) shows the 27th and the others are still reporting the 20th. Oh well, wouldn’t be the first time I’ve seen something like that.

until netflix throttles the hell out of you…and belive me they will soon or later *unless your on a 1 at a time plan

i used to be with netflix until they throttle me and i got like 6 months in one month (every new release jumped to VERY LONG WAIT ) even if i had it in my Q for 3 months

Yes, I agree Netlix is the co. that sucks!

Not nearly as true any more. I would 100% agree with you if this were 2007. In 2009 they throttle much less if at all. A key part of their throttling used to be to ship from a distribution center across the country, so it would take days to get to you. Now they changed theor policies so that when they ship from a faraway center they ship an extra DVD from your local center, so on a 4-out plan you will have 4 out (with one of them taking longer to get to you).

Now, new release throttling still exists, that part is still true (though it is mostly beatable if you make sure to have a DVD returned on Monday the first day the new releases are shipped). But that’s why Redbox is a good complement to Netflix.

Er, typo, meant “on a 3-out plan you will have 4 out.” Just though I’d say it before anyone makes fun of me :)

i used to have 3 open slots monday (well sunday) and every movie jumped to VERY LONG WAIT come monday…

might try it next month if redbox really does start to be forced to pull all of its movies out…

bad thing is even at 3 at a time play its 18.18 after tax… I can get about 16 new releases for 20.00 at family video with the buy a 25 buck gift card for 20 and using rent 1 get 1 free movies

it would sort of be hard for even netflix to match that

Redbox will be carrying less and less of the new releases as we go into November. They are counting on their customers being happy to rent 15 year old movies instead.

This is the future of Redbox. If you are using codes to get the titles for free then I can understand. But paying for a reduced selection of movies? Just go to your local mom and pop. Support your local economy instead.

      Right on John Small
I hit my Mom and Pop every once in a while cause the clerks there rent me new releases on the weekend BEFORE street date. There is room for you guys in this rental world. I used to work at a video store too so I sympathize with you but ultimately the one thing about the American consumer is…we have been told to always expect better and when I can hit these boxes without skipping a beat in my hectic day, I don’t care if they go to $2 a night….serious. Outside of a few people here and there most people don’t care about local businesses…heck ….most people don’t even WANT their neighbors to succeed. Trust me on this one. I ended up going into a new business and opened up 4 towns away. Most small business owners say “support me” and then they end up using the profit from their business and spending it in a different town where they live or online or at the closest big chain store for food or clothes or necessities. Sure the landlord gets rent money from you but I wonder where HE spends it?! And yes…I am a little bitter about it…you will be too eventually.

i would not be telling people they rent you movies the weekend before they come out… They can and will be fined big time if someone finds out they are release these movies early and could even have their contracts pulled.

They (the studios) don’t care. A couple of indies in a neighboring town have been doing it for over 10 years. They had been reported numerous times through the street date violations hotline, but nothing was ever done. Every Friday, they will have the following Tuesday’s releases on the shelf for rent.

            See what I mean?

I realize they are small potatoes but these indie guys flooding this website …VBG retailers…seem to forget the rules when it comes to them…haha

never mind..I dont want them to stop cheating…it gets me movies early…and sometimes that keeps me from redbox so its all good.

“But paying for a reduced selection of movies? ”

You don’t rent a selection, you rent a movie. If they had all 700 slots in the kiosk filled with the same title but that’s the title I wanted I’d say “so what?” and rent it.

People won’t go to their local store just because it has a bigger selection, if Redbox has a big enough selection to keep them entertained.

The variety of titles is a key advantage local stores need to market and exploit, but by itself it means little to consumers. When you go car shopping you don’t ever say “I think I’ll go to Ford because they have a better selection of SUVs, even though I am going to buy a pickup truck.” All people care about is that night’s movie.

Darn, I see Michael put a Meijers-only promo code on the Code Page. Have no Meijers here in PA, but I see Meijers seems to get a lot of location-only codes. Once, I even emailed Meijers to tell them I always hear GREAT THINGS about Meijers –like a lot of location-only Redbox codes :-),and was wondering when they’re going to expand Meijers into PA. They actually emailed me back to say though they had no plans now to expand to PA, they would certainly consider it! Waiting…Waiting..Waiting… When I contacted Walgreens about needing a Redbox kiosk at my local Walgreens–did get one around 2 months later!
