Land of the lost and Drag me to hell don’t come out until next Tuesday.

According to Blockbuster, both of those are suppose to come out this Tuesday, 10/13.

Oh really, according to “movies on aol” (where i usually go to check on new movies) it say they are due out on the 20th. I also checked on Hollywood Video’s site and it says Drag me to hell comes out on the 13th but doesn’t even show Land of the lost on there so I don’t know what’s going on! Side note: I checked on Blockbuster also and you are right, they say they come out on the 13th but when I checked on Land of the lost it said “Theatrical Feature Running Time 60 mins”, I saw it at the theater and I know it runs longer than that! LOL!

maybe they knew it was so bad they cut the running time down to 60 mins… : )

hopefully by friday they have them… was thinking of renting them tomorrow at a mom and pop store for 2 for 3 but i got such a massive backlog on my DVD i probally watch the moveis their first then rent the movies for the weekend.. Sci fi show almost all 8 hororfest movies last weekend : )

I saved the list of new releases that blogger Jim (owner of video store?) shared last month. Blogger Jim listed then that Land of The Lost and Drag Me To Hell were announced as a release date of Oct 13th. Just saw Zombieland at the theater and saw Drag Me To Hell when it was at the theater. They were both entertaining in the same way as both have a bit of humor and both keep you interested.

The Proposal was funny. Ryan Reynolds will be a great comedic actor for years to come.

When I was at one of my local Walmart locations today it stated that “Land of the Lost” was on the “Also in October” list.

This was at the Redbox kiosk inside Walmart…There were shelf tags hung where it is supposed to be stocked in the electronics dept. so i’m wondering if this is one of those Warner/Universal/Fox movies that have the stupid delay on it.

Independence Day Sequel Stalled By Fox

i think an ID4 2 would flop big time now.. too much time has past and noone really cares about it anymore. would be nice but doubt it will ever happen.. will never say it will never happen cause who knew we would ever get aliens vs preditor

Another example of how the quality of films is going to suffer because of the toll red box is taking on the industry.

Does the ad say redbox will have it on the 13th?

Mine just says available in October, as it always does with titles like these from Universal….so I know mine will be there by Wednesday night, as usual.

This is just Universal. It’s going ot be interesting when the rest of the studios start their title delay’s in 2 weeks.

@ 10:49am, Tuesday (GMT) 13/10/09, Rebox’s website (in the Find Movies section) has the following titles with description listed:

    -Drag Me to Hell

A loan officer ordered to evict an old woman from her home finds herself the recipient of a supernatural curse, which turns her life into a living hell. Desperate, she turns to a seer to try and save her soul, while evil forces work to push her to a breaking point.
Rated PG-13 by the Motion Picture Association of America for sequences of horror violence, terror, disturbing images and language.
    Widescreen.

    -Land of the Lost

On his latest expedition, Dr. Rick Marshall is sucked into a space-time vortex alongside his research assistant and a redneck survivalist. In this alternate universe, the trio make friends with a primate named Chaka, their only ally in a world full of dinosaurs and other fantastic creatures.
Rated PG-13 by the Motion Picture Association of America for crude and sexual content, and for language including a drug reference.
    Widescreen.

However, *none* of the kiosks in my area have either title listed in inventory.

Does anyone have to guess why? ;)

I don’t understand why people keep supporting redbox when it’s obvious they are the reason for all the bad movies being made lately. The studios can’t survive on the low revenue they offer in turn they make crappy movies..

Are you serious? You really think the Redbox business model has any effect on the creativity or movie makers?
What’s obvious is that movies aren’t worth as much as you think.

If the studios can’t make no money (because redbox cuts into their revenue) then of course the quality of movie will suffer. Why wouldn’t it?
It has nothing to do with creativity you can be as creative as you want no money = less films and worse quality.

i dont see if movie studios are hurting for cash so badly why dont they change the way they make movies… Instead of giving one so called big name movie make 200 million to make another transformers movie why not break that 200 million but and give 20 people 100,000 bucks to make a movie… take a look at that new blair witch type movie (cant think of name) what cost what 100,000 or less to make and its making millions … There are Tons of people who have great ideas to make movies but the studios think if your not a BIG NAME they have no business making movies…

Up until now I really thought maybe you were just always being sarcastic but now I am totally convinced that you are a true knucklehead. Even if in some imaginary world redbox did force studios to make worse movies…..they have only been around for a year or so as this large of a company. They account for maybe 10% or 20% of the total units bought of ANY movie. How the hell can they have affected all the bad movies we’ve seen in the past few years? Think about it dude…..geez..you people are truly pathetic.

I agree with you, but you do know you’re talking to one of the fake moviecrazys don’t you? The original moviecrazy has a picture with a triangle pointed down for a face and a big sharp toothed grin. I think it fits his style very well (and for the record, that’s a compliment – I like his style for the most part).

Rumblefish. How I think it is effecting the quality is yes they only represent 10%-20% the problem is that’s also the percentage of revenue red box has cost the studios = 20% less production cost, films, quality.

Out of these, I think the only ones worth more than a dollar are:

        Transformers
        Up
        Hangover
        Star Trek
        Terminator
        District 9

        Worth a dollar:
        Final Destination
        Ugly Truth
        Angels and Demons

        Worth a free code:
        500 days of summer
        Extract
        Inglorious Basterds
        Public Enemies
        Night at the Museum
        GI Joe

        just my opinion….

        again moviecrazy
how do you figure they only make 5 cents off that rental?
They make whatever the profut is when the movie is SOLD to redbox!! ..and thats the same amount of profit they make when they sell a copy to wal mart…probably MORE profit.

They only make money off of a rental if its a revenue sharing deal like Blockbuster has. And thats only because Blockbuster doesnt have any money to pay their bills and owe the studios MILLIONS of dollars!!!

Sure they make the same amount off selling a movie to redbox. But when they sell that one copy to redbox they then rent it out for $1 to x amount of people (who then won’t go buy it) then they sell it themselves on the cheap to someone PV one more person who won’t buy it. In all that 1 title they sell to redbox has cost them 2,3,4,5 sales? The sell-thru is where they make their money. Would you be more apt to buy a dvd if it was for rent at blockbuster for $4 the difference being $10-$15 dollars or would you be more ap to buy a dvd if it was for rent at redbox for $1 the difference being $15-$20. That’s the point because each sale of the dvd nets the studios $10 each rental at redbox nets the studios $0.Red box is hurting the sell thru.

Yeah, I probably won’t, you may be crazy for movies, but I can go on perfectly fine without ever watching another Will Ferrel movie.
Movie Studios should use their money better and hire new breakthrough actors and not expensive washed up unfunny celebrities…They did the same thing with Robin Williams, it took them awhile to figure out he wasn’t funny…

I don’t have a problem paying more than $1 for my rentals. But only redbox allows you to pre-pay and reserve you copy ahead of time. Blockbuster never has enough copies of new movies. It’s a wasted trip every Tuesday.

RedBox pulls this crap all the time. They had enough notice, so they shouldn’t have advertised that they had it in stock when they didn’t. Blockbuster it is!

Wait until the 27th when they are missing 60% of their product out of the machines. Or if it is there they will advertise it yet only have 2-5 copies in the machine.

Tuesday? Your better off waiting until Thursday. There isn’t going to be nothing there on tuesdays. The guy who stocks all the titles has to go around and buy as many titles as he can on tuesday himself. Then repackage them and then get the couple of copies he found into the machines (Thursasay a the earliest). It’ll be like Russian Roulette you’ll never know if it’s going to be there or not.

        what happens on the 27th???

why would they be missing 60% of their titles

I always get my dvds at 12:01am on Tuesday. I stay up after the football game. Then I login at 12:01 reserve my movies, then go out and pick them up. Come back, go to bed and have movies waiting for me when I get home from work Tuesday night. So even if they only have a couple copies I always get what I want.

For $1.00 rentals versus $4.00 rentals at other video stores or $20.00 to buy the dvd, I’ll wait as long as needed. Plus the online reservation system is something other stores should have had a long time ago in my opinion. But the other video stores and movie studios are stuck in their ways, thinking they can tell the consumer what they want instead of listening to the consumer about what they want.

There will be something there to get Joey….

You are putting way too much value in this notion of getting the movie RIGHT AWAY. I know you see this as a great victory for you but for me and a lot of others I talk to, they just dont care that much and will get something else. You might want to put your eggs in another basket before you high five yourself.
The Orphan? really? Do you really think I am going to adjust my convenient driving routine to track this down? Maybe the Hangover when it comes…but outside of that…no worries.

Let’s see if you say the same thing when you keep going to redbox and the movies they have listed are the ones you want to see but they constantly aren’t there. So you keep having to settle for inferior movies while your looking at the box art for the ones you want to see. Again your one person even if what the studios are doing squashes a fraction of the people who frequent redbox they win because they drive that many more people back to retail.

          • Member [Join Now]
            clinty1980

Why do you assume people would go retail and buy a movie if they were renting it in the first place? If redbox went away I would simply go to another rental store or netflix, not to the store to buy the movie. If the studios really thought rental was going to destroy the industry they would have came out and tried to stop all rental services, not just redbox. They just want a part of redbox growing profits i.e. money, money, money.

The only movie worth getting on its actual street date is “The Hangover”(Yes, Joey, I AM aware this is a Warner title so if I want it that bad i’ll have to go to Family Video to rent it for $2.59 + tax). The rest of the crap I can wait 30 days on. Remember in the heydays of VHS you had to wait six months for a turnaround from theater to tape, now the window is usually 3-4 months. An extra month doesn’t bother me at all.
