Redbox New Releases for December 16, 2008

Here are this week’s new DVD releases that are coming to Redbox. It is likely “Mamma Mia!” will be delayed due to the situation with Universal. I am not sure about the new “Mummy” movie.

At my location, neither Mamma Mia! nor The Mummy are advertised as coming on the 16th for Redbox, nor do they have a placeholder selection within the kiosk.

I’m assuming Redbox is just using a red name card to advertise Wanted because of post-Dec 1 licensing issues, so I’d expect Mia! and Mummy to show up as similar red name cards if there’s an attempt to stock them sooner.

Also, this week is separated into 12/16 and 12/19 releases. Mia! and the Mummy were 12/16 releases. Traitor’s a 12/19 DVD release. The House Bunny is 12/19, The Women is actually 12/23.

You are 100% correct. I just called Redbox and they confirmed the schedule you gave. Thanks for the info. I don’t know why the info is wrong on this site.

Gee, I see Mama mia listed but cannot reserve. Is this a scam. I am getting tired of this false advertising. Also there are too may crapy and scarry movies in the listing. Must be run by some wierdo CEO

I agree this really sucks. Every week it’s the same thing. Redbox here is a suggestion: If you are not sure then DON’T advertise your new releases. It is false advertising.

Yea! Class action lawsuit against Universal for screwing us all over!

Don’t look for Universal releases to be in your Redbox any time soon.
It’s to the point where you have to verify which are the Universal movies first before you waste your time. By the way, I posted a warning on this website two weeks ago that this would happen and I was severely criticized. Where are you Red shirt?

Wow, bad memory. No, I pointed out your assumption that this site is affiliated with Redbox was wrong and explained why. I also addressed your absurd claim that this forum was “propaganda.” However, I never said a word about your comment regarding future availability trouble with Universal. Maybe you’re confusing me with someone else.

I just called Redbox and asking them about not being able to find Mamma Mia! & The Mummy. I also asked about how last week Together Again For The First Time was supposed to be out. I was told that Mamma Mia! & The Mummy have been delayed and that they are working to get them into the machines. I was told that Together Again For The First Time was show as having being listed on one site they use but for some reason it was never stocked in local machine and now they don’t have it anymore for some reason. So I’m guessing that movie just got canceled already. But the guy did mention that he had never heard of that movie before. He even gave me 2 free promo codes for the inconvenience.

The only redboxes we have here in pocatello are at Albertson’s & 1 at Smith’s. I’ve tried all of the promo codes on this site & only a few have worked, most of which are one time only uses. The only ones that I can use anymore are monday’s codes which don’t do a whole lot of good cuz new releases come out on tuesday. So I was just wondering if you or anyone else has any promo codes that I can use at Albertson’s or Smith’s. It would be greatly appreciated.

This problem of Redbox not having new movies available (at all) has been happening more and more. I don’t think it is their fault but probably due to the spat between Redbox and the movie studios. The studios need to wake up and join the rest of us in the 21st century.

I hope the lawsuit makes Universal pay redbox big damages. The lawsuit doesn’t give them any permission to delay releases to redbox, they have to delay to all their customers equally. It’s B.S and a unfair business practice.

Redbox has been giving more promo codes away lately to keep their customers happy, Universal will have to reimburse them for that also, in my opinion.

So I want to say.. Thanks ahead of time for the free movies, Universal !!

I agree 100% with this. Why is Universal singling out Redbox?

        • Visitor [Join Now]
          tobychili [visitor]

They are not singling out Redbox. They tried to force all kiosk companies to sign their ridiculous “revenue sharing” agreement. It’s just that Redbox is too large of a corporation to send people to Walmart or Target to supply thier kiosks on time, like I have to do. Get Mamma Mia or Mummy from a DVDNow kiosk. I am not siding with Universal in any way… just enjoying a competitive advantage right now.

Thanks so much for the code. We saw Mamma Mia when it was a play in Columbus and are looking forward to renting the DVD this weekend.

I just checked the website and its showing as them having Traitor available already. I checked for the Mummy and some places it shows as having it now. So just a 1 day delay just like with Wanted isn’t bad. Not to mention they gave me 2 free promo codes when I called to ask about the Mummy and Mamma Mia the other day. I just went to Blockbuster and got Mamma Mia their and then got a George Carlin DVD rental for free since I have Blockbuster rewards.

I just got back from Redbox with a copy of Mummy 3. A 1 day delay is not so bad.

Unfortunately, my copy of The mummy 3 from Rebox is full screen.

I called Redbox about getting the full screen version of the Mummy 3, instead of the wide screen version i would have liked to have, and they said, “you get what the machine spits out”. I think that is a flaw with Redbox. I think there should an option to specify what format you want, BEFORE the disc actually dispenses. Not a real big deal, I know, but it would be nice.

I agree completely, but I greatly prefer widescreen to what
is falsely called “fullscreen”. Today the only TVs you can buy
are widescreen. Playing a FS movie gives you either short,
fat people or black bars on the sides. Hence, “fullscreen”
is not really full-screen. At the very least, they should be
able to tell you which version you are getting. This is
enough to put me off Redbox altogether.

    Screw you, Universal!!! [visitor]

I read that Wanted was delayed a few days because of the same thing that is going on with Mama Mia and The Mummy. If the movie is a Universal title, good chance that it will be delayed a day or two because Universal has their heads up their arse. Mummy 3 was sh*t anyways. They are probably doing everyone a favor delaying this.

when blockbuster had exclusive rental rights to a dvd the employees of movie gallery would walk across parking lot to a target store and bought 5 or 6 copy’s to rent out and that’s how they went about it to keep their customers happy

Just rented Mamma Mia and The Mummy Dragon Emperor from Redbox in Walmart here at Winston Salem, NC. I was also informed that The House Bunny might come out this Friday despite what the sign indicated as 12/23/08 Release….so I will check with my local Redbox tomorrow.

I rented the new Mummy movie today. Much to my annoyance, it is a full screen version not the widescreen one. It isn’t a dual sided disk, just a single sided full screen version. Are all of them full screen?
