Sony, the first major studio to sign a distribution deal with Redbox, has renewed its agreement with the kiosk operator. The new deal runs through 2014 with the option for two one-year extensions.

Unlike many other studios, Sony has not pushed 28-day (or longer) new release delays on Redbox. The studio seems to have decided that offering its titles day-and-date through Redbox has not had a significant impact on sales.

Redbox SVP Galen Smith applauded the extension of the agreement:

“On behalf of consumers, Redbox always looks to create win-win relationships with our studio partners . .  . We are happy to extend our relationship with Sony and continue to provide consumers day-and-date access to the biggest new release movies on DVD and Blu-ray Disc at an incredible value.”

Redbox’s next major studio content deal that is up for renewal will be its agreement with Fox. Will the studio continue to push a delay on Redbox, or will it change its tune?
