Redbox: Business is ‘Stabilizing’

RedBox-LogoWhen Redbox parent Outerwall announced its Q2 numbers, the company seemed to be pleased with its progress, even with a drop in revenue of nearly million from the same period last year.

Said Redbox:

“We were pleased with the results … with key indicators pointing to stabilization in the business, including less impact from secular decline compared with Q1 and Q4 2015,”

Redbox also announced that it had rented 123.6 million discs, down from 146 million in the prior-year period. A bright spot in Redbox’s business was video game rentals, which are increasing the cost of rentals for the company’s customers. Said Redbox:

“As the industry continues to transition to new generation consoles, customers see Redbox as the try-before-you-buy destination for new generation games, an important factor in the improvement in video game rentals and revenue. Video games remain a key component of the Redbox strategy and the business will continue to focus on meeting growing demand while maintaining profitability.”

Whaddya think, Insiders? Is a decrease in rentals and revenue ever indicative of a “stabilizing’ business?

well as far as movies go.. i havent been renting anything..BUT they are dead on when it comes to the place to stop and grab a game for 3$ to see if my son likes it enough…

actually they want folks to try GAMES SO BAD i took a chance and i called them before i ever rented a game and simply asked for a code to try and rent one. as i always bought games and never rented. they gave me a code just for asking!

but it really is a game tester!-

some games my son plays that one day and is done with it….. other times he may beat a game in 2-3 days.. and if thats all he cared about it saved me $$ still..vs buying and reselling.if he just wants to beat the main campaign..

then of course their are the games that are gonna be keepers i take them back in one night and then hunt it down on eBay! –EXAMPLE GTA5-tons and tons and months of game play!

PS_WHAT REDBOX STILL NEEDS IS A RETURN ONLY SLIDE/CHUTE … anytime i have ever had to wait in line and that was the reason for it being late.i get a code..

AND DONT FORGET….FOR NOW–DVD CODES CAN BE USED TO DISCOUNT YOUR GAME RENTALs{for now}!!… ok sorry about the blabbing..havent been here much!

I still think the box may do better if…

    1. They gave you a 48 hr window. to get the disc back..
    2. Have One Box for the games only. One for the DVD’S only.
    3. Put some good Old Movies in…. over 80% of what they have is trash..
    4. Bring back the .99 cents & $1.25 deal on the disc…
    Just some thoughts..
