Redbox Billing… Simplified

I have noticed quite a bit of talk lately regarding strange charges and other billing issues with Redbox…

Redbox has heard you and is making some changes to their billing process. From a Redbox email:

New! Easier Billing Process

Tracking your rental charges made easy! Redbox will only charge you once, after you return your last DVD. Rent one DVD, one charge. Rent five DVDs, one charge. It’s that simple.

(Note: You will see a temporary “authorization hold” of $1.00 on your debit/credit card statement; rest assured, it will be released within 3-14 days after your rental.)

I emailed their customer service and notified them of the dvd being scratched
and the location that I was returning to. Hopefully they really do take them out
quickly. They responded with a free promo code that worked out fine.

Happened to me once. I called them up and told them about it. They said to return the DVD, they would flag it to be inspected. They also said I could pick up another copy and I received a free night. Their CS people over the phone were great.

If free rentals are won on occaison with promo codes and manipulation of the system how can you just reverse charges like you are not doing anything wrong? Anybody else? Start paying attention to your bills !

I tried to return 2 movies the night after they were due, and it wouldn’t let me return them. It was Bean’s Holiday and rush hour 3. They were late because of this problem. I finally tried the next day and it let me return them. I was charged for a extra day for both movies. The email address that I gave in the required field is a old email but it is the one in my redbox account. I have a new email address. caseyhunt27@yahoo.com Thanks!!!

I returned it to the redbox either on nissan dr. in smyrna, tn., or the one on almaviile rd. in smyrna, tn. This movie is not one I wouldv’e kept!!! It wasn’t a very good movie. Thanks!!

Thats the redbox locations I use most frequently. I rented a movie 4 days ago and returned it 3 days ago- before 9pm! I just checked on my checking account and have $4.40 worth of charges. I emailed them and they gave me 2 free rental codes. I do not want to rent from them anymore, I want my money back, so I have sent them another email. Their movies are cheap if everything works correctly, but I have decided it is not worth it!

I HAD A HORRIBLE EXERIENCE WITH REDBOX THAT EVERYONE CAN LEARN FROM< I RENTED 3 MOVIES, AND RETURNED THEM THE FOLLOWING DAY, ALMOST A MONTH LATER AND A WEEK BEFORE MY 3 KIDS WERE TO START SCHOOL, MY CARD WAS DECLINED, COME TO FIND OUT I WAS CHARGED NEARLY $80 FOR MOVIES THAT WERE RETURNED. THEY HAVE YET TO INVESTIGATE THE PROBLEM OR GIVE ME MONEY BACK, MY CHILDREN ARE GOING WITHOUT BECAUSE THIS WAS ALL I HAD LEFT BEFORE MY NEXT PAYDAY IN 2 WEEKS…..I HATE REDBOX

After reading all these, I am getting worried, As a word of warning, even deleting your credit card will not solve future abuse problems.

When you transact a payment this way, example rent 5 days, instead of redbox deducting $1 everyday for your rental, it will deduct $5 when you return. So the software works by capturing your credit card and deducting when and where they wish.

Well I hope you get it worked out, But this is an example of why you should always have reciepts emailed to you, so you could catch things like this long before they get to this point.

email reciepts from redbox are as important as detailed billing is on cell phone plans because the companies are less likely to screw your stuff up if you have records of everything.

We have been very happy with Redbox services UNTIL today when we recevied an email subject: Rental Receipt billing us $25 for a returned movie. We have never kept a movie more than one day (why when Blockbuster is right up the street and we have to drive across town for Redbox?). But we had noticed lately the email receipts were getting later and later. Now they tell us unless we have the emailed rental receipt showing the return we have to pay the $25.00. Of course we had deleted our inbox and deleted email so if it had ever come we no longer have it.
    Anyone else having problems??

hello. I have a comment about a dvd I rented last month. The movie was speed racer. That dvd wouldn’t play for me. It has a few scratch’s on it. Do you remove that movie from the machine and place it with another movie. thanh you. And happy thanking, and merry christmas. Lori Ann

I have rented for a few months now using the promo codes and have not had any problems… until I noticed that one of the credit cards I use with the promo codes had been charged 3 separate times for 3 separate transactions. All of them should have been free – but somehow or another I was charged even though I had them back on time the next day. I emailed them and am waiting for a reply.

~~ Fraud Alert ~~ RedBox is fraudulently charging people for returned DVDs. We haven’t rented movies in over a week, and just found a random charge for $25 for a movie we ‘never returned.’ The problem is this movie was returned ONE DAY after it was rented. When we called “customer service” we were told that there is no way to confirm whether or not the DVD was returned. If we do not get a confirmation then it is our responsibility to call them ahead of time… WHAT? After looking at several chat rooms, it seems that a lot of people are having this issue when returning to locations other than where they rented.

After RedBox offered to credit us $10 of the $25 charge, we continued to complain and they responded with that is all we can do. I then looked online again and found that they are required to do an ‘inventory search’ of the particular location where we dropped it off. When I brought this up, the representative put us on hold and then came back minutes later with a miraculous authorization to refund the total amount!

DO NOT RENT FROM REDBOX, and if you do… beware of fraudulent charges!

When you went back to the machine did it say it was sorry?

These machines are not human and a friend of mine who franchises a McDonalds hates them for this reason. He only get’s complaints and wastes time on the phone every day with it.

Guess what his cut on these Machines as a franchisee? A bigger electric bill.

I quit renting from RedBox because I wasn’t receiving email confirmations of rentals and returns and have warned everyone I know about this. They are not being spam blocked and the email address is correct. Without the confirmations you have no warning about what they are up to and are subject to receiving unwarranted charges. Good luck on contacting customer service if needed because they are incredibly slow.

I had been a renter of Redbox since they forst came out. I had rented a broekn DVD and simply tried to call to let them know and I got the WORST customer service in my LIFE. I dont know where they get these people that they hire but let me tell you, they have inspired me to spend 5.00 a rental at Blockbuster. At least they have some customer service. Redbox is the worst company I have ever dealt with. BEWARE!!!!!

Aside from false advertisement of “NO LATE FEES”, REDBOX charges more than the customers should be charged. I keep track of my bank account ALL THE TIME. When we started borrowing DVDs from Redbox, I started seeing charges that shouldn’t be there. Two times they overcharged us! I called the Customer Service and the lady seem to be reading a manual or rules and kept repeating her sentences without actually listening to my complaints. I asked her to transfer me to a supervisor, it took her 20 minutes before she could even transfer me to one. Then the “supervisor” did the same thing. He just kept on reading the charges without listening to my complaints. They charged us twice for 2 different times and they wouldn’t even apologize or refund the overcharged fees. They make money by overcharging customers. If you’re still borrowing DVDs from these people, check your bank accounts and you’ll know what I’m talking about. We will never borrow DVDs from Redbox.

Always use a e-mail so you get confirmations. Haven’t had a problem yet with the charges. I’ve seen e-mail delays, but that’s just the way the internet works sometimes.

I have not rented from redbox since the end of March. The past two months I have been getting charges from them just popping up. Any other time I turned in some late movies and didnt have the money in my account they would place a hold. They would always do that and get their money as soon as my check was deposited. These last two months there were no holds. 5 seperate charges totalling 72.53. THats not pocket change. I read the website and it says they will not refund incorrect charges older than 90 days. So I emailed three times and will call tomorrow and call and call and call again until I get my money. People laugh but this is the same type of thing that got Blockbusters behind in a class action lawsuit. I feel it coming. Do not rent from Redbox. My grandmother was charged for a movie she returned. Two months later an employee at the Mc D’s that knows her told her they found the movie, it was STUCK in the machine. Thats some crap.

I have been having issues with them also I have been getting movies I did not select coming out of the machine. Then I have to call them and return it and go through the whole explanation of what happened. In the email it sends me it says it was the movie I selected but it’s not what I got. It has happened to me 6 times. I think I may be done renting from them it’s too big a hassle to have to call them and be on hold forever. It’s supposed to be convenient.

The only problem that I have had with redbox is scratched movies that do not play. Every time I contact customer service they give me 2 free rentals, although sometimes it is impossible to get ahold of them. I read alot of these comments and think that alot of the problem is human error. The dvd’s are loaded manually by a person….possibly making a mistake with the bar code or something…as well as people not properly returning their dvd’s…make sure your dvd has been successfully returned…if not it can get jammed or pop back out…and who maintains these things?….buyer should always beware but if your careful and observant you should have no trouble with the redbox…it is after all a vending machine…I wouldnt put my credit card in just any Coke machine so dont trust just any redbox.

I have been having problems lately when I rent a movie or return a movie with redbox. I am no longer receiving emails from them? I have to keep calling redbox and asking do they show me returning the movies and how much I am being charged? And I do not have any filter, blocks or a spam account where these emails can be going?? I used to get emails all the time, but for the last month or so I have been having problems.. I am getting tired of calling and emaling redbox for help because they are really no help? Has anyone else had this problem?
