Redbox Begins Testing Kiosk Credits

Redbox, beloved for so long by so many for its promo codes, has begun testing a new way for users to get free rentals: kiosk credits. Get more details after the jump.

We’re seeing reports of emails inviting users to test “a new kind of freebie” from Redbox. Kiosk credits are being added to users’ accounts, who then have until June 17 to redeem the credits for a free one-day DVD or Blu-ray rental.

To redeem the credits, users simply visit a qualifying kiosk (only select cities are being used in this test), select their titles, and use the USE CREDITS button to check out. Redbox has provided an FAQ page about the new kiosk credits here.

Have you received any kiosk credits from Redbox? If so, what do you think about this new test program?

I just received .50 credit yesterday (06/05) in my email and have until 06/07 to use it.
When I click on the link it tells me its been posted to my account and all I have to do is chose my movie and the credit is applied and I pay. I think its pretty cool.
Must say I was really surprised because in the pass when I put in a code online it tells me it has to be an online code and I have never gotten one until now and I have been with RedBox from the very beginning. This is my first. I am located in TX. I think its a great incentive and I welcome it. So far so good!

I’ve rented well over 125 movies from Redbox over the years on a different email addy, I do not have the ability to receive text promo codes. Having missed out on so many free rentals my account now shows little to no useage for the past 4 months as I wean myself from Redbox. Yes, I received the .50 cent coupon to apply against the new pricing and feel it’s a slap in the face. S’long Redbox, I’ll stream my movies from someone else.

A slap in the face to see a movie for 70 cents? You do remember having to pay 3-4 at Blockbuster before RedBox existed right?

I’m in Raleigh and was offered a 50 cent off deal by Redbox. The problem was that I only had 3 days to use it and it ended on a Thursday: I don’t often have time to watch a film during the week. My guess is that this is an effort to expand usage and sales during that time period.

This is another disgusting marketing ploy – wow! 50 cents off a rental, big deal. The truth is, it’s really only 30 cents because Redbox changed their rental price from a dollar up to $1.20 So, yes, 30 cents savings is nice but it’s not such a wild “gift” Redbox wants you to believe. Give me the free rental or at least 50% off.

I received the 2 credits. I rented my movies and all I had to do is check “use credits” at checkout and use a debit/credit card that I’ve used before. I looked that I didn’t have to enter a crazy code. I hope they implement the credit option. I also got the .50 special they ran for the weekend.

I simply cannot believe the amount of whiny posts already spouting the “Waaahhh it’s not free” line. Redbox is a company trying to earn a profit. They’re giving you a chance to save money on said service which is already priced way better than the alternatives.

    Movie in the theater? $10+.
Netflix? $7.99 & it won’t be there for 7 years.
    Blockbuster? Good luck finding one.
    Buying the DVD? $15+.

I think even the markup to $1.29 is still a great price.

They already give me a free rental every month (2 because of the wife’s phone) which means I rarely have to pay for a movie already. Now they’re offering credits? Hell, I might be able to spend less on the flicks I do pay to rent? Sweet.

Thanks redbox, I’ll gladly take a credit for a product and service I like and am willing to pay the whopping price of $1.29.

Amen to that my friend… I think some people complain just to complain!!! No company can just give away its products all the time or it wont be around for long. Take the credits for the gift within which they are intended and leave it at that. Great comment Joe!!!

I received the 2 free credits, but it said I have 30 days to use them.

I got the email saying they were giving me two free credits as well. It confused me when I checked out my movie and pushed the use credits button though, because it said I was using 0 of 2 credits. I tried it twice and it said that. So I went ahead and rented my movie anyway. When I returned my movie two days later, I got the receipt in my email, and since I had the two credits, the cost was 0.00. It was nice. I like not having to enter codes.

I got a .50 off code to use either at the kiosk, or online. I went to use it at the kiosk, during the time period they said it was vaild, but it would not work… tried it online, and it didnt work there either…
