The bromance between Universal Pictures and Redbox has been percolating for some time now, so it doesn’t come as a particular surprise to hear that the two partners have extended their distribution deal.

Universal titles will now be available for rental at Redbox kiosks the day they’re released for retail sales. They will also be available through Redbox on Demand. The previous 28-day delay for most Universal films has been eliminated.

Galen Smith, CEO of Redbox, said the following about the extension:

“We are very pleased that our more than seven-year partnership with Universal has evolved into the best case for Redbox consumers, who will now be able to enjoy day-and-date access to Universal’s new releases across Redbox’s disc and digital services,”
