175_90_RedboxAfter much “will they or won’t they” speculation, Redbox and Lionsgate have announced  a new multi-year agreement that will bring new Lionsgate films to Redbox on the day they are available for retail purchase.

The original agreement between the two studios expired in August, and many in the industry were wondering if it would be renewed.

Mark Horak, president of Redbox, was confident about the deal, however:

“Our agreement with Lionsgate continues our track record of establishing win-win relationships with content producers,”

Ron Schwartz, president of home entertainment at Lionsgate, felt the same way:

“We remain committed to expanding the choices … for our consumers, and our Redbox relationship is an important part of this commitment,”

Do you think it’s suspicious that a renewal took this long to hammer out, or should Redbox just be happy that it got a new deal at all?

Unless they put something out that is worth it. 90% of the movies out are total trash.
No story. Actors that can’t act with shi%
And if the Box up’s the rent price…
This will not help them much.
More and more are leaving/not renting from the Box. And with the wright off they are taking on the streaming loss. I do wonder how much RedBox is going to take on the streaming loss. And how much Verizon is going to take? RedBox is going to take a good loss for a few Qr’s.
Hope they can pull this off. A few more hit’s like the streaming loss. And the Box will be going the Block Buster way…
    It can happen.. Just saying…

Dano seems to just be a hater…

Its not surprise that Redbox and Lionsgate arrived at a new contract. Redbox is the #1 buyer of disc media, with DVD sales dwindling, studios can’t afford to not have their #1 buyer purchasing from them. I think all studios should rethink their delayed release policy. Take the money for the DVD sales while you still can. If I was a studio, I’d be doing everything I could to get my discs into the redbox machines.

Danno here. I just tell the truth…
RedBox sales are slipping and going down..
The studios can hold out much longer the RedBox,,..
You can bet the Price of renting a DVD from the Box is going to go up..
And that will = less renting from the Box..
RedBox is in trouble anyway you look at it…
They really need to do something & fast…
Something that will make people come back.
As I have said in the past.
They need Two Box’s everyplace. One for DVD’S One for Blu-Ray’s
$1.25 for the DVD. $1.50 for the Blu-Rays.. And they need to make it 48 hrs..
To bring it back. And put some good old Movies in with some good new one’s..
that would help them a bit…….
      just a thought…

Danno, please tell me that you work for Netflix….cause if you don’t it’s just crazy how every post on multiple sites are all the same. Blah Blah is bad…Netflix is great.

I love Netflix, but all your posts here (a redbox related site) are about redbox sucks Netflix good…Redbox is for new release movies…and last I checked with Netflix, that’s their “fly in the ointment”.You can wait forever to get that new release in your queue.

I do agree with you that a lot of the new movies suck….but that’s hardly Redbox’s fault. They are just offering the movies that are released on dvd and Blu.

Dano is an idiot. All he does is post the same thing over & over. Sort of like Dustin Hoffman in Rainman

Normally, I would be suspicious that it took this long. But the problem with my suspicion is that the attorneys are on staff and therefore get paid whether or not the deal goes through. So this is not a matter of attorney versus attorney. This is a matter of Redbox versus Lionsgate. I don’t know why the delay took so long for them to hash it out. It’s probably just show that everybody can make as much money as they can. After all, it’s the American way!
