THIS IS UNFAIR!! IT’S ALSO “PROFILING”, YOU SHOULDN’T RESTRICT YOUR PROMO’S TO ONE SPECIFIC CATEGORY, RESTRICTING THIS “DEAL” TO TEXTERS ONLY IS PLAYING ON ONE AUDIENCE ONLY AND CUTTING OUT THE REST OF A PROFITABLE EDGE! WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO DO SUCH A THING AS THIS??
IT MAKES ME WONDER WHERE YOUR LOYALTY LIES!

    UNSETTLED!!!

I also agree. I don’t text so this deal means nothing to me.

Oh please, redbox offers different specials just like other business. You should get on their email list. I get free movies and discount now and then. I do the same thing with my business. I offer a special to my email customers that I do not offer to anyone else. Then I will offer a special to my facebook followers that I do not offer to anyone else and then I send out a newsletter to my customers with coupons that only they can get. I also offer a different special out to the public. There is nothing wrong with Redbox testing their marketing. If you want to take advantage of this deal…..get texting. Most phone companies have it. Winny butts. wah wah wah. I am not being treated fair…wah wah wah.

Old enough to know I am sick of all these stupid complainers that want everything for free and handed to them. Redbox does not have to offer any discounts. They are just about the cheapest movie and game rental place around. There are millions and millions of people on facebook and out of the millions and millions….millions have texting. They would have to be stupid to not advertise an offer on facebook. Stop all the complaining and man up or woman up. Act like responsible adults and get over it.

Well I rented 2 movies yesterday Monday 5/14/2012 and when I put in the promo code it said it was invalid, I even tried it 10 times but it wouldn’t work so it’s useless to me…..very disappointed

If that is the case and you focus only on one demographic them don’t advertise that you are excluding other viewers of your message – I absolutely feel excluded from these types of “deals” if costs me more to send a text than any probable savings!! I also HATE facebook and the strings involved in participating!!! Anyone who has special offers that are only available on Facebook loses credibility in my book!!!

I agree that text only leaves a bad feeling. Once a company does text only or Facebook/Twitter only offers I start to really question my desire to use their service. It may only be a quarter savings but it tells me that I don’t count as a customer because I don’t use a certain third party service or website. I don’t like it!

I feel the same way about this. Why not just put the promo code in the email like you used to do. It even cost me every time i text………..sorry to say, that is why i very seldom use or text from my cell.

I agree 100%. I feel excluded when a company only offers deals through facebook or twitter, or in this case texting. It costs me money to text so the savings is negated. C’mon Redbox, you’re better than that!

Not all of us can afford cellphones, and are unable to text due to many reasons, such as unemployment, or just plain having other priorities….Dont be hostile……
This is unfair, and it is simple as that… I am disabled and do not have a cell either due to financial restrictions…When is RedBox going to give us a fair alternative giveaway???

I agree with most comments, I myself do not facebook, twitter or do THE MOST STUPIDIEST THING INVENTED —TEXT, all I want is a e-mail, IS THAT ASKING TOO MUCH?, today it is, advertisements want you to only get thier SO CALLED SPECIAL BY USING THIER, we get paid for this stuff, PROMOS AND COUPONS, What about the people who want simple, back to basic?

    • Visitor [Join Now]
      pagerdude12 [visitor]

Well basic was back in the 90s when it was all email, now its a day and age of texting, so maybe its you who needs to change seeing as the vast majority of the world has already changed, that why they do this, they are appeasing the majorities who do text and who do use facebook and twitter. you can still subscribe to their emails.

I understand some of y’alls points but I also understand that the majority of the population now texts and uses facebook/twitter, so you can’t really blame them. I have a facebook account that I only use for promos ;)

I agree but the frustration is that its the ONLY way to get it. I think they should use those outlets too. They would be stupid not to, but dont exclude those who dont use those sites. Simply common sense. Get it out to as many people as possible, not limit it.
      Thats all

Why is everyone complaining? Seriously, if you dont text, then A) Ask someone who does text, or B) forget about the promo…. Whatever is in RedBox is also online…. GO ONLINE AND WATCH IT FOR FREE if your too cheap to pay a dollar to rent a redbox movie >.> (Its a DOLLAR! COME ON??! If you cant afford that you need to get a JOB!)

This site is for comments. People have a right to express an opinion. Why do you have so much of a problem with this?

      • Visitor [Join Now]
        Kellie [visitor]

I dont have a problem with people expressing their opinions, I have a problem with people who whine unnecessarily. Screaming about how poor you are isnt going to change RedBox’s policies…

I just moved and am job hunting. No debit card yet either and when I looked at RedBox at the local WalMart it said $1.20. This website still says it’s $1.

I agree 100%. I feel excluded when a company only offers deals through Facebook or twitter, or in this case texting. It costs me money to text so the savings is negated. C’mon Redbox. I rent at least 3 movies a week

Well, my $1.75 input.. I do not text, usually, for deals only clients and certain friends. I do NOT feel slighted in the least bit about not getting deals via text. I get them through email and that is fine. I have a FB account, I do not friend many ‘commercial’ entities there, either. I don’t feel slighted by not using the media they use to distribute discounts, as I do not care to use the outlets. At the current pricing level, it is not an issue. Then again there is always Netflix for those who do not use these methods and you can get a great deal if you return movies every two (2) days, then they are cheaper than RB.

@ Darlene – call, email or chat-online with RB as customer service is very responsive to these types of situations. I had something similar happen a few weeks ago with a code received, they promptly replaced it, as I let it expire by a week or so..

I think this is silly. The people that are on here getting rude because people dont want to use facebook, twitter or text. Saying that “if you cant afford 1.00, then you should get a job” is just really immature. Some people cant afford extra luxuries such as texting & 1.00 is 1.00 when you have financial issues. I am amazed at the rudeness on here. People are allowed to vent their frustration about something relevant to the site they are on without getting berated for it.
I understand a lot of people use facebook, twitter, etc. And RB is just using it to promote their product/service BUT what everyone is “complaining” about is that is it the ONLY way to get the giveaway. There should be different ways. Thats all.
For example, not everyone wants to have a facebook or twitter account, so why should they not be able to take part in a contest/promo, etc? They can still advertise/promote on those sites AND have an option for people who dont use that.
Just like you say a lot of people are on Facebook,Twitter, Text. There is a HUGE amount who do not (more & more every day). So, just like they want to get the people on those sites, it would be beneficial for their business to have an alternative to include EVERYONE who wants to partake.
Thats all. No need for there to be insults. It is frustrating that it is a time where its Facebook/Twitter only contests, freebies, etc.
Im sure a lot of people on here “complaining” about it, this is NOT the only giveaway or freebie, etc that is limited. You used to be able to go to the companies website to enter for whatever. Now, you HAVE to go to Facebook. It is getting a little old.
I agree they should make that available for all the people who use those services. But have an alternative for all those who do NOT.
    Thats it.
This site is suppose to be able movies, movie rentals, promo codes, etc. Please try to stop being so cruel just because someone doesnt use texts, Facebook, etc. Doesnt mean they are old or cheap or complaining. This goes beyond just this one promo.

They figure if you have money to pay to sit around and text all day they are the people to pull in to rent. Also the contests they run,I have never seen the names of who won,for all we know no ones getting anything for free.
