For movie lovers who like Meat Lover’s pizza, life just got a little more convenient. Relatively new kiosk vendor EntertainmentXpress has made a deal with Aurora Huts LLC, a Pizza Hut franchisee, to place kiosks renting DVDs and video games in 155 restaurants throughout Pennsylvania.
The kiosks will be branded with the Pizza Hut name and will use the same $1-per-day price point that much-larger rival Redbox employs. As the company’s reach expands into more food service locations and grocery stores, digital distribution is also planned. Customers may also soon be able to order a movie rental along with their pizza delivery.

Garrett Cecchini, CEO of EntertainmentXpress, says that his company is an ideal partner for companies looking to be on the cutting edge. Said Cecchini of this deal:
“Our core business model is to provide demographically targeted digital entertainment and [advertising] solutions intended to create sales lift for our retail partners . . . We believe that Aurora Huts is at the innovative leading edge which makes them a perfect development partner.”
How much room is there is the kiosk rental market for additional players, Insiders? Will it soon be a rarity to visit a retail or eating establishment that doesn’t have a rental kiosk of some sort?

Before I read this article, I was thinking: Wouldn’t it be great if you could get a Redbox rental delivered with your pizza?
If the selection was right and I was ordering a pizza, I think I would pick up a movie with it quite often. Seems like a great value add for the pizza place as well as the kiosk vendor. Would you be more likely to order a pizza from a location that did this?
This has been tried multiple times over the years and has failed every time.
A lot of things have been tried and failed, but their time does come. While I don’t know how successful this company will be, it seems a Pizza Hut/Redbox partnership might actually succeed.
Adding $1 (or $1.50 if there was a “convenience fee”) to the cost of a pizza purchase would be an easy sell. Even better, what if the pizza place gave out a free one-day rental with purchase. Good for the pizza place, and good for Redbox. Think about it.
Just remember you must go back to the Pizza Hut to return your rental.
Why isn’t BlockBuster placing kiosks at Pizza Hut? Moreover, there are actually very few BB kiosks in Southern California. They seem to be taking forever to place them. The nearest BB kiosk is 12 miles away in a Rite-Aid. There is another Rite-Aid in my own city only 1 mile away. Why hasn’t BB placed a kiosk in there yet? I suppose it could be that BB is cash short and doesn’t have the funds to place a large number of kiosks simultaneously.
One advantage of placing kiosks in Rite-Aids is they are open 24 hours a day. You could wait until 1 minute after midnight and then rent a new release which you would normally have to wait 28 days to rent from Netflix or Redbox.

No Pizza Hut would never do that. The 2 companies are separate entities. You, as a rental customer, must assume responsibility for the rental. The reason why you must use a credit card and cannot use cash is because the credit card gives the rental company redress should you fail to return it or if you return multiple damaged disks. The credit card gives the rental company a method to charge you for the missing disk and also identifies you.
Of course, if you had a friend working at Pizza Hut and you both wanted to view a disk after his/her shift, he/she could bring pizza, sodas, and 2 movies after work. ;^D
At first I thought redbox was going to do this and I thought ‘what a great idea.’ But then I see it’s a new player to the game, but still I like the idea. I don’t really ever go to pick up a pizza, but having a movie delivered with pizza is nice. Only thing is now I have to return it back to the pizza place I didn’t want to go to in the first place (hence getting it delivered).
What might be really cool is having a pizza delivered and renting a movie from the company digitally over my TV or laptop, instead of a DVD….
I think it’s great that they are renting video games!! I would definitely use it if it came to VA.
I don’t eat Pizza Hut pizza but there is one just up the street from me so I would have no trouble popping in for a $1 movie. That’s what I do at the grocery store that carried Redbox–just pop in for a movie. It’s all about location for me. I don’t care who’s got it as long as it’s close!
Interesting, but I don’t think this will work too well. If you rent a movie from the Pizza Hut machine, you have to go back to Pizza Hut the next day just to return the movie. and then you might be hungry for pizza, so Pizza Hut gets more money. Putting the profit thing aside, it would be inconvient to go to a Pizza Hut just to return a movie. This won’t work as well as Redbox’s “return the film to any kiosk” convinence because these machines might not be in every Pizza Hut in PA.
That being said, I live in PA so if one opened up here in the Canonsburg area, I would try it out at least once.
It would be much better if you could return it by mail. In that case the trip to the restaurant would be saved!
