Pay-TV Subscriptions Keep Dropping

downloadIf’ you’ve cut the cable cord recently, you’re part of a large cohort that continues getting larger. According to research firm SNL Kagan, combined cable, satellite and telecommunications operators lost 430,000 video customers in the most recent quarter of the year.

That decline makes the year-to-date drop in pay-TV subscribers to about 1.3 million, which is a record decline for the first 9 months of a year.

The one bright spot in this news for cable operators is that the decline is the lowest level it’s been in nearly ten years.

Whether that slowing pattern will hold is anyone’s guess.

If you’ve cut the cable cord, Insiders, do you miss it at all?

WAKE UP AMERICA, yes, finally, the monopolies of cable companies and satellite companies are losing subscribers as the internet takes a major chunk of their business just as satellite moved in on cable dominance in industry, now the internet is squeezing them both out. With thousands of alternative media devices which turn your internet connection into a watch anything at anytime without hassle of DVD recordings, rushing to get home before tv program starts, PAY PER VIEW costs, leave it all behind and switch, I did two years ago and have saved thousands and as technology continues to advance, now you can access hundreds of thousands of TV shows and every movie ever made with simple keyword search. No wonder industry is shifting to streaming technology.

Will the crescendo in cord-cutting result in the “salute” by the ISP industry? Are the ISPs waiting for the correct time to “coincidentally” announce strong data stream throttling when (not IF) the customer reaches the monthly data quota?

I cut it years ago. Don’t miss a thing.I have
NetFlix, HULU, AMAZON Video & Warner Archives.
And have more then I can watch… And over the air TV.. If I need it.
The thing is. The Cable Co’s are waking up. And starting to put Caps on your net use. And are going to up your net price soon. All to make up what they are losing. In the end, you will still get the shaft…. It’s the USA way. Sad to say.

No doubt, the rates will go up over time, but remember, there are far more ways to access internet access then just cable. We all have access to unlimited data on many cell phone plans, so if cable companies want to raise prices, then switch to mobile access, I did, and given unlimited data plan is combined with my cell calling plan, I calculate I only pay about $20. more for the unlimited data over my phone plan. These prices have been dropping, so it should be interesting, but it will take years for any significant increase in prices as cable companies know the market, there is always an option. I have been tethering off my cell phone for many years for internet access on my computers, so now I use it for streaming all I want for cheaper than any other option.
