imagesNetflix founder and CEO Reed Hastings tends to be very open with his opinion. The man’s thoughts on the next few decades in television were abundantly clear during Hasting’s remarks at the recent Re:publica conference.

Among many other fascinating remarks, Hastings predicted a continual drawdown of interest in traditional television:

“We will come to see that linear TV declines every year for the next 20 years.”

Hastings predicted that internet TV will continue to rise and eventually dominate the television landscape, supported by apps of forward-thinking companies.

Interestingly, Hastings also prognosticated that the TV set of the future “will look like a large iPad,” bolstered by a range of apps. Hastings’ comments are especially interesting given rumors about Apple’s upcoming update to the AppleTV.

He is right about all kinds of stuff here. TV as we know it, is on the way out….
And Apple will be a big player in what is coming.
And Netflix will need to move with the flow.
I think in the next 5 to 7 years DVD’s in the mail will be gone. They will go the way of the Laser Disc. And VHS tapes. I still buy old Laser Disc when I see one I like. But they are far and few. I even have some VHS tapes still.
    Old is Cool…..

No doubt, since streaming has been perfected and no more buffering issues with faster processor speeds, the through the mail rentals will be long gone, as will cable and satellite in time for the cats out of the bag on streaming, who wouldn’t stream and access thousands of TV shows and thousands of movies watching what they want when they want, commercial free, this is the future in entertainment and it is here now, been streaming everything I want to watch for months and love it.

No doubt streaming is the thing. But I still hear people saying that it stops & starts. And millions still have the buffering issues. And I think that is from
who they have the net with. I think in 5-7 years in the mail will be gone.
Commercials will still be here. Hulu has them at the start of the TV Show/Movie. NetFlix will start that in time also. As cost go up, and up and up.
They will need to tap into some more income.
But yes streaming will be the thing.. The Net Still needs to get up to speed.
I have talked to people saying the net speed for them is 20-25 MBps.. And that is bad.. I’m on Time Warner and going at 300 MBps.. And doing just fine..
But millions are still not so lucky…

I have just 5 Mbs internet speed and everything works absolutely well for me! Granted, my wife and I usually watch the same stuff on Netflix….

5 MBps. That is stone age….
Ok.. You are lucky it works…
Now if you had three are more things going at the same time. OPS!
You are dead in the water…
Hope you are not pay much for it…..
