Netflix was an outspoken opponent of the now-dead Comcast/Time Warner Cable merger, and the streamer is reportedly attempting to help put the kibosh on the proposed acquisition of DirecTV by AT&T.
According to Reuters, Netflix feels that the AT&T/DirecTV merger would consolidate too much power among multichannel video program distributors (MVPDs).
This is Netflix’s stance, from Reuters:
“The proposed merger would make AT&T the largest MVPD in the country, and potentially lead to it becoming the largest ISP in the country as well . . . Such market power creates new incentives and abilities to harm entities that AT&T perceives as competitive threats, and will exacerbate the anticompetitive behavior in which AT&T has already engaged.”
How much influence do you think Netflix wielded with regulators to help kill the Comcast/Warner deal, and do you think it will have similar success in this case?

Everything is about a power grab now. The more power the co has. The more they can screw the public. It was nice to see that the Comcast/Time Warner deal went down the can. This deal here. I don’t know much about. YET!
More & more will come out on it as it goes..
Monopolies live if this goes through, and just like the Comcast TW deal, so too should this one be nixed.
What you say is 100% right..
As a long time DirecTV customer, and an even longer AT&T Wireless customer, I can say from experience that the QUALITY OF SERVICE from both of these companies is absolutely the BEST and is immeasurably better than the competitors. I have Verizon as my ISP because they have my area locked down and I don’t have a choice for Internet and a land line with my DirecTV bundle. I HATE Verizon, but love DirecTV and AT&T Wireless.
Just some information from a long time customer.
AT&T have almost wrecked ONSTAR—was good with Verizon—
Hope they don’t get Direct TV—-
