Netflix is not kidding around when it comes to getting into the exclusive content business. The company, which has already locked down the Kevin Spacey series House of Cards and the upcoming new episodes of Arrested Development, has signed an exclusive series development deal with director Eli Roth.

The new series will be based on the Brian McGreevy novel Hemlock Grove,  and will be only available on Netflix starting early next year. The announcement of the deal bumped up Netflix shares 4%.

Justin Colatosti, an analyst at Dawson James, offered the following on the stock uptick and Netflix’s recent forays into original content:

“It’s tough to pin-point a single headline to a movement in the stock . . . However, this just continues Netflix’s plan for exclusive content. Netflix already has streaming deals set up with heavyweights like Arrested Development, House of Cards starring Kevin Spacey, and Mad Men.”

Colatosti was quick to point out, however, that an enormous new competitor for Netflix is waiting in the wings:

“The long-term story remains the same . . . Netflix’s future will likely depend on the on the pricing and offering from Verizon and Coinstar’s Redbox.
