imagesIf you’re a bleeding-edge adopter of 4K Ultra HDTV, you can get the higher quality picture from your Netflix subscription, as long as you’re willing to pay a little more.

Netflix charges subscribers more per month for the privilege of receiving select shows in 4K.

According to Netflix:

“We added Ultra HD 4K streaming to the $11.99 [family] plan in August . . . Anyone who had an Ultra-HD 4K device connected at that time will be grandfathered in for two years at their original plan price.”

Netflix claims that the $3 premium has nothing to do with the fees the company is paying to ISPs such as Comcast and Verizon for direct access, but that the higher price is designed to …”help defray the extra cost of Ultra-HD 4K content,”

Netflix also anticipates that more and more of its subscribers will demand 4K streaming as the format becomes more popular:

“Market researchers predict that consumers will buy a million Ultra-HD 4K TVs this year and even more in subsequent years. We expect it will likely take up to 5 years before Ultra-HD 4K becomes mainstream; when most of the TVs on store shelves are Ultra-HD 4K,”

Do you think streaming Netflix in UltraHD is worth a $3 premium each month?

Since August, at no additional cost, I have been using the Ultra-HD 4K service. It is surprisingly good! Unfortunately, the amount of NATIVE content in the 4k format, leaves much to be desired.

Hopefully, by 2016, which is a long time from now, there may be some other alternative service. In short, I don’t think ANY premium is worth the additional added value, as the current video up-scaler(s) are good enough to enjoy the added resolution.

I am not going to buy into it. It’s not the cost. There’s just not that much out to make it worth it.
And I am not going to go out and jump on the band wagon and get a new 4k tube. Buy the time this is worth doing. It will be 5 k are something Tv you need.
Pass. I love my NetFlix….. And will keep what I have…

“We recommend an Internet connection speed of at least 25 Mbps to stream Ultra HD titles”

Well, that leaves me out, for at least this decade. My internet provider maxes out at 1/4 of that, even if I cared to buy a new TV.

      For real?
I don’t believe people are still getting net speeds slower then 50 MBPS. And even that is the dark age. I get 275 MBPS.. For $71.00 a month from Time Warner. But that may change if Comcast get’s them. And knowing the Idiot FCC and Uncle Idiot Government. They will let it happen..
Then my net speed will tank. And my bill will go up a foot.

There are plenty of us who don’t have super-spiffy high speed internet. I’m not willing to sell my soul to Comcast for mediocre and overpriced internet service.

I hear you about Comcast… I call them Comcrap.. And I have said a ton about them trying to get Time Warner.
I hope and I hope it will never happen. But knowing the Idiots at the FCC. And the fools on the hill in DC. They will let it happen.
And my net will go to hell. And the price will go up a good 35 % are so.
And then the caps and fast lane crap.
When that happens. Time to say hell with.. And get all my movies & dvd’s in the mail are buy them are hit RedBox…

I don’t like Comcast too, but I am stuck with the cable option due to no DSL, FIOS, etc. Frak the slow, capped, and expensive satellite, mobile, etc. Cable wins. :(

Nothing higher than 6.0 Mbps in my area. At that, I’m doing better than some in the area. Some folks around here have the same speed and a monthly bandwidth cap of 25 GB. Comcast isn’t the worst in the country, believe it or not. Some of the small providers make them look like saints.

          WOW! And WOW!
I must say.. I am doing great then….
I just hope the Idiot FCC and the Idiot Government don’t let Comcast get Time Warner.. .
          Time will tell.
