With its adult-oriented series such as Orange is the New Black and House of Cards, Netflix has millions of grown-ups subscribing to access its original content. But what about those viewers’ teens and tweens?
According to the New York Times, “Netflix has licensed two films from popular YouTube personalities, including “Smosh: The Movie” from the creators of the YouTube comedy channel of the same name, which has over 21 million YouTube subscribers; and “Bad Night,” featuring the YouTube stars Jenn McAllister and Lauren Luthringshausen.”
Netflix sees a void in the area of teenage-focused content, and it’s trying to fill it before its competitors do, according to Erik Barmack, Netflix’s vice president for global independent content. Said Barmack:
“In the on-demand world, there isn’t a place where there is lots of great scripted shows and movies that are catering to that audience . . . That is both an opportunity and a challenge.”
Is this a good call by Netflix? By providing more original shows for teenagers, will its new targeted demographic convince their parents to subscribe?

Only time will tell.
Usually the stuff Tweens like sucks
It’s a tough market as it’s becoming more and more fragmented but if they care about the future they are making the right decision to try to continue to add more relevant content.
It’s a good move. If you can get them as customers young, then they will be customers for a long time.
