Netflix’s stock was sent soaring today after word got out about a major license deal the company signed with Hollywood studio Warner.
Under the new deal, Netflix will get streaming access to previous seasons of eight current and upcoming Warner shows. Series include the hit Revolution, along with Political Animals, Longmire, 666 Park Avenue, Chuck, Fringe, The West Wing, and the upcoming The Following.
Ted Sarandos, chief content officer with Netflix, said the following about the new deal:
“This unprecedented agreement brings to Netflix members earlier and more exclusively than ever before complete previous seasons of some of the most prominent and successful shows on network and cable television . . . Through deals like this, Netflix is making the production economics right for the continued creation of the kind of compelling serialized dramas and thrillers that our members love.”
Bruce Rosenblum, president of Warner Bros. Television Group, was similarly effusive:
“SVOD has become an important window for our serialized dramas, allowing viewers a chance to discover a series that before might have been intimidating to tune into mid-run . . . We continue to adapt our business models to include SVOD when it makes sense for the long-term value of each show and are thrilled to have Netflix as one of our distribution partners.”
Are you excited about some of the Warner content that is coming to Netflix?

How excited I am is directly related to when this will happen. In the next couple months? Super excited. In 2016 like the Disney deal? Ask me in 3 years.
I’m already watching West Wing!
Love that show.
West wing showed up at Christmas. I would like to see Fringe since I never got into.
Fantastic issues altogether, you just won a emblem new reader. What would you suggest in regards to your publish that you just made some days in the past? Any positive?
Our company has had some interest in these kinds of promotional items and had some graphics done by another business. Is it possible to use the same artwork? The graphics company was Concord Signs & Banners 3568 Kimball Way Concord, CA 94518 – 925-808-3817. I am not positive if the files will be compatible.
I’m not thrilled about anything on TV, bring on more movies.
Anything new and more to watch is a plus in my book. I have Netflix and love it! Of course I hope it doesn’t take long to implement.
It won’t do anything for me! I have never watched any of those shows and I have no desire to do so.
My friends and I were at Elephant Bar discussing tv and movie streaming, and the consensus for all 8 of us was…. (a) Hulu rocks for tv shows; (b) we all use Redbox regularly or semi-regularly; and (c) we are all DISAPPOINTED with the limited number of newer movies available on Netflix streaming.
btw I subscribed to Netflix streaming almost a year ago, on the promise that the movie selection would get better. But it didn’t. Of my list of 22 newer movies not available for streaming, only 6 were added. In nearly a year. Yikes
Netflix executives, if you’re listening…..
You should probably do some market research and find out what your customers are thinking. AND CARE. Keep in mind that Blockbuster didn’t give a rat’s arse about their customers, and continually screwed them (some of which resulted in class action lawsuits) and they wound up with disgruntled customers. As for the families that we know here in Southern California, most everyone I know didn’t like Blockbuster but still went there anyways out of necessity. (there were no other places to rent videos!) But Blockbuster couldn’t care less about their customers, because they were the BIG corporation and could pretty much do what they wanted to customers–especially with no retail store competition, they were like a MONOPOLY. Kind of like the only grocery store in a small town. They could pee on their customers while they’re shopping and customers would still keep coming back, out of necessity.
So Netflix executives, if you’re listening and if you care, don’t go “corporate” on us (like Blockbuster did) and make us hate you.
You can start by improving your selection of streaming movies like you promised to do a year ago.
