Netflix Scam Alert

175_90_NetflixIn the midst of all the fun industry news, movie previews, and other content we offer you, we also occasionally need to bring you important warnings. There’s currently a major Netflix scam out there that you should be aware of.

The scam involves an alarming looking email from “Netflix” that tricks recipients into believing there is an issue with their account. From there, if a person follows the instructions in the email, a scammer can gain complete access to their computer.

According to Consumerist:

Victims will get an email or a pop-up directing them to a fake Netflix log-in page that looks real but is just a front to get at the good stuff. From there, a notice informs the viewer that “We have temporarily suspended this account,” followed by a 1-800 number to call for support.

After calling the number, a scammer is directing people to grant remote access to their computer, which allows the scammer free reign to seize credit card info, personal data, and much more.

Please be aware that Netflix should NEVER need to contact you to request access to your computer. Common sense and a bit of warning about this scam could save you a lot of headaches. Let us know in the comments if you have received any of these communications from “Netflix.
