Though it has ruffled some feathers in Hollywood with its low-cost streaming option and has some analysts predicting a tumble, there’s no denying Netflix is still on a roll. The streaming and DVD by-mail giant unveiled its fourth quarter numbers today, and demonstrated that at least for now, business is booming.

Overall, Netflix more than doubled its subscriber growth in 2010, reaching 20.1 million members in the fourth quarter.

Q4 net income was up 51% from the previous year at $47 million.

Of particular note is the fact that a third of Netflix’s new subscribers have opted for its $7.99 streaming-only option.

The company also revealed that its continued subscriber growth will allow it to spend more on streaming content in 2011, which will make the 28-day delay windows it currently faces from the Hollywood Three “matter less”.

What will 2011 hold for this quickly growing company? Can anything slow Netflix’s ascension?

I imagine the studios are a bit nervous about the concentration of power in netflix’s hands. It is truely incredible how well they have done. Great service at low prices. It’s that simple.

Netflix needs to be careful about dictating t0 their customers what they want or they could easily wind up being the next AOL or Blockbuster.

1/3 of their customers are streaming only. Did you see that all you chicken little’s that complain about the streaming? Do you think 1/3 of 20 million people would pay for it if it was total crap as you try to tell us constantly?

One has to find only a few movies a month worth watching to justify the cost. Add in a few TV shows and it’s a steal.

That’s – “a third of Netflix’s *new* subscribers” NOT a 1/3 of their total subscriber base.

…and whether it’s crap or useful is subjective as it’s not only related to content but internet speeds for anyone even interested. Which from the numbers is only 33% of their New customers.
So physical media is still most important to most subscribers at this time.

Two thirds of your NEW customers don’t sign up for a particular service and that’s where you’re going to focus you’re future business model?
