Netflix Launches Downloads

This week, the streaming giant launched new versions of its mobile apps that include a “download” button on the details page for certain movies and shows.

Currently, the downloadable offering is limited, but Netflix says it will add more content in the near future. Currently downloadable are such shows as “Orange Is the New Black,” “Narcos,” “House of Cards,” “Stranger Things,” “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” “Master of None” and “The Crown.” Also available are non-Netflix originals such as“Breaking Bad,” “Supernatural,” “The Office,” “The Flash” and “The 100.

Eddy Wu, Netflix’s director of product innovation, said the following about the new update:

“While many members enjoy watching Netflix at home, we’ve often heard they also want to continue their ‘Stranger Things’ binge while on airplanes and other places where internet is expensive or limited,”

    NetFlix will need to do the Amazon number and make about 90% of what they have online download bit. So you can take it with you for say 24-48 hrs..

    This download feature only works on smart phones, not on tablets, like the Kindle Fire. A real bummer! But you can always use PlayOn to do the same thing, I have been using it for years.
