Netflix_just_rolled_out_a-23308e111c03d9879747487ba767324cTaking a cue from Facebook, Netflix is planning on getting rid of its current rating system. The new system will jettison viewers’ option to rate content from zero to five stars, and will instead let them simply give shows a thumbs-up or thumbs-down.

The new rating system will roll out next month, after Netflix experienced a 200 percent increase in user responses during testing.

Todd Yellin, VP of product at Netflix, talked more about the obsolescence of the star rating system at a recent media conference:

“Five stars feels very yesterday now . . . We’re spending many billions of dollars on the titles we’re producing and licensing, and with these big catalogs, [a star rating] just adds a challenge.”

What do you think about Netflix’s new rating system, Insiders? Does it get a thumbs-up or thumbs-down from you?

    Stupid…

Whether you show thumbs up & and thumbs down… it can still be converted to a percentage or rating.

You can’t get rid of statistics. Someone will do it elsewhere even if you turn them off directly on your own content.

Bad move! I like the 5 star system and use that to judge a movie instead of professional critics reviews. I hope they don’t kill the ability to submit and read members reviews.

They need a rating that isn’t thumbs up or thumbs down. A shrug and maybe and “Enh…” since that’s what most movies are.

Have a thumb up, thumb down, and so so.
