Have patience, multi-user Netflix households. Netflix’s CFO, David Wells, says that his company recognizes that more and more households feature multiple users trying to access content on different devices and has a plan in the works.

As the number of users viewing Netflix’s streaming on laptops and tablets increases, so has the demand for a multiple stream option. Wells revealed that his company is working on a new plan, but declined to reveal pricing.

Said Wells of the planned experience:

“When you want to watch, it knows it is you but not your spouse or your child . . . There’s a much more targeted experience.”

Wells also wants Netflix’s customers to know that his company is not planning a repeat of its PR fiasco from last summer when it increased prices:

“In general, it’s not to frustrate our consumers . . . We’re trying to solve a very inelegant [current] solution today. It will also enable more personalization as well.”

Would your household benefit from a multiple stream Netflix plan? What do you think the pricing for such a plan would be?

I don’t understand… I can already do this. My wife will watch in the living room and I watch on the bedroom TV from time to time.

This is aimed more at people that have kids etc and mom, dad and multiple kids all want to watch at the same time, using 4 or 5 streams. Not supposed to be able to do more then 2 basically right now.

This could really help my family since I watch anything that interests me but my husband stays away from R ratings and gets frustrated when he has to sort through all the movies for his version of appropriate films. Will this also allow us to watch our separate movies at the same time? Sometimes my daughter is watching her kiddo shows and I get a Doctor Who craving but then I have to wait until she’s finished.

I’d pay around $16 for these capabilities. Any more and I may as well just have two accounts.

    Interesting,

We are all hearing about more streaming video options, yet as I see it, in the end, it will be useless given the bandwidth capping and higher and higher costs being announced. AT&T blocked unlimited data plans, and now today Verizon just announced no more unlimited data plans, so streaming movies is just a lure, advertising ploy as I see it, in the end no one will be able to afford to stream movies, so even if it was free service, it won’t fly with what is going on with internet providers.

Before the price increase netflix didn’t put much attention in how many devices were streaming at the same time although it was supposed to be just one device i watched up to three devices at the same time but now i only can on two devices which is ok but sometimes my family each one wants to watch something different the question is how much netflix is gonna charge for each extra device ? Hopefully is not more than a dollar

When netflix decided they were changing prices last year I dropped my subscriptions from streaming and 3 out down to streaming and 1 out at a time….only because i still liked the convience of getting new releases….we could all watch streaming in our own rooms at the same time no issues….the last few months it had been awful to run more than 2 tvs at same time so i opted to also get hulu. (trial) I was surprised that they charge the same as netflix for current tv shows and limited old series but only 1 tv can use service at a time. Now i am reading this article and thinking again about just getting rid of all services and sticking to basic tv. It is a shame they are nickel/diming us to death when without us they have no company/business.

    I can imagine the “great” pricing scheme “1 stream:$8, 2:$16, 3:$24, unlimited: $55”
I would only pay more ( 2 or 3 dlls) if they would allow to maintain different queues per account, so I can have one device tied to a specific queue like the kids’ room to kids only shows, etc.

I would love to have a kids only account option. It would be nice to prevent them from accidentally accessing R rated content.
