Do you feel like Netflix just doesn’t have as much content as it used to? If so, you’re spot on, according to Netflix catalog tracker AllFlicks. Netflix has reduced its movie count by 33 percent and its TV show count by 26 percent in the last two years.
AllFlicks reports that Netflix had 6,494 movies and 1,609 TV shows at the beginning of 2014. A recent check shows that Netflix’s content count had dropped to 4,335 movies and 1,197 TV shows.
So why the drop? Money and exclusivity. It’s becoming more and more expensive for Netflix to license content from Hollwood studios and distributors, which is making the streamer have to be more selective about what it takes. Netflix is also heavily investing in original content to distinguish itself from its competition, and such movies and series also come with a high price tag. Netflix plans to release around 31 original shows in 2016, which is nearly double what it released last year.
Is Netflix’s quality over quantity direction the right move, or does the company need to fill its content coffers more?

My family is not the least bit interested in their “original content.” I’d prefer they spend the money on things we want to watch, such as the older Disney movies.

What you did not say here was. The studios are not renewing all kinds of things with Netflix. As they are starting there own steaming deals. CBS all ready has one going. HBO has HBO NOW. SHOWTIME has one going. Just a bit more time and they will all have a streaming deal going.
I like Netflix and all the Old stuff I can watch on it..

So…..the price is going up but the amount of content keeps going down?? Sounds about right!
