imagesHave you noticed any ads for other Netflix shows popping up when you’re watching original content on the streaming service? If so, you’ve come across a quiet new testing project that Netflix is working on.

Hulu Plus, Netflix’s closest competitor, has been embedding third-party ads into its programming for years, a move that Netflix has said it won’t do.

For Netflix subscribers worrying that these test ads for Netflix content may lead eventually to third-party ad placement, Anne Marie Squeo with Netflix corporate communications has some assuring words:

“We are not planning to test or implement third-party advertising on the Netflix service . . . We test hundreds of potential improvements to the service every year. Many never extend beyond that,”

In a Facebook post, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings affirmed Squeo’s words:

“No advertising coming onto Netflix. Period. Just adding relevant cool trailers for other Netflix content you are likely to love.”

How fine is the line between a trailer for new original content and a third-party ad, Insiders? Do you think the line will continue to be blurred as Netflix moves forwards with these trailers?

It is just a matter of time, advertising is too profitable to not take advantage of, so they have to condition subscribers with their own promotions and then, wham, other advertising is slipped in. That is why I like all streaming, no commercials to deal with or costs per month.

I bought a season of American Horror Story on VUDU 2 years ago and they put 1 or 2 trailers for other FX shows at the end. It made me mad. I’m stuck with that crap for good and have to exit for fast forward to the end to show the episode is fully watched. I don’t like it at all. I can easily see original content and don’t need it shoved in my face.

Wow. Greatest CEO-speak ever. Ladies and gentlemen, give this man a raise.

As long as I can skip the intro/trailer – I’m okay with it and netflix keeps 3rd party ads off the service.

I can buy it if they keep it at the very start, end…… But if they have it in the Movie, TV show as it is going along… Time to dump Netflix..
    I pay for no ads…
If I want the ad crap. I can watch the Idiot box for free.

I have not run into any yet….If they keep it on there own content only. Fine.. I don’t watch 95% of it anyway… if they start putting it on everything? Then it may be time to dump them?

I can tolerate ads at the very beginning of a movie, but if they start doing the same crap as commercial TV, breaking after every scene, then Bye bye Netflix. This is why I won’t sign up for Hulu. And to show I can really hold a grudge, I am STILL angry over AMC showing commercials.

You are right about all this…I still have HULU….
They have about five things I want. Can’t get them on NetFlix.
I’m starting to Record them. When the commercial comes on I stop it.
The start up again when its over. When I get everything I want.
      Hulu. may go….
