How come some of the e-mail writers above received the code before 10am? I left my home at 1:30pm & it still hadn’t arrived. Every wk it comes after noon.
What do I have to do to get it earlier?

      1. Pray.
      2. Check this site first thing.
      3. Have a friend who gets it earlier send you a text message.
      4. Pray more.
      5. Get mad and pound your keyboard.
      6. Throw your phone across the room.
      7. Go to the Redbox Corporate Offices and sit in front of the door until it opens.
      8. Ask Obama to bail out the phone companies.

I don’t know what time zone you are in, but the Monday code is usually sent out around 10:30am cst. I am in cst and have received my code as early as 9:30a, and as late as 1:30pm. 90% of the time the code comes through to me at 10:29a,10:30a,10:31a.

I usually receive my promo code at around 9:00am Pacific Time. The last 3 or so weeks it has been getting to me around 10:15am. Check this website and see if it has been posted and get it from here. That may be the easiest way to do it. I don’t know when they normally post it because I get it early(for my time zone). You may be getting it the same time as me if you live on the East Coast due to the difference in time zones. If I get it at 10 am and you live on the east then you probably will be getting it at 1pm.

Thanks for my first Monday Code – my movie choices were a bit thin yesterday at The Box. I rented Twilight again.

Why in the world would you do that to yourself? My God, what a horrible, horrible movie. I would’ve gotten a Bob the Builder disc before torturing myself with that one again.

I noticed on the Redbox site there is a category that says Blu-Ray anyone have any info on this.

Some titles are also available on bluray. Such as Bedtime Stories

Here’s what they told me last time I called them: Blu-Rays are being test-marketed in certain areas. Since discs can be returned anywhere, that means that some Blu-Ray titles may get shuffled around and returned by the customer to areas not in the test-markets. Redbox is still collecting feedback (marketing data) to determine how to proceed with Blu-Ray. Things like customer demand, quantity, pricing… have yet to be determined. (yes, they are considering charging more than $1 for Blu-Ray). At this time, there is no way to determine if a machine has a Blu-Ray version it unless you are at the kiosk in person. From your home computer, there is no way to reserve a Blu-Ray title. You can call Redbox customer service, ask them to look in a specific machine (location) and they can tell you. You need to tell them a specific machine. They are not able to tell you if say, “Quantum of Solace” is available in Blu-Ray in your area, or where to find it in Blu-Ray. They can however, tell you if “Quantum of Solace” is in the Walgreen’s machine located at 1234 Main St. Yourtown, USA.

If you have received confirmation from Redbox customer service that there is a Blu-Ray title in a certain machine, there is NO WAY that you can reserve that Blu-Ray version. YOU NEED TO BE AT THE MACHINE IN PERSON TO RENT BLU-RAY!!!

My guess is that if the economy ever improves and more people up-grade to Blu-Ray machines, Redbox will start to have greater Blu-Ray commitment. Until then, I think that Blu-Ray will just be a small percentage in certain areas, and that Blu-Ray link under genres at the Redbox website will stay empty.

okay, I went to three different reboxes 9 as did others it would seem) and the code did not work on any of them ” processing, routing…..”. What happens? under these circumstances, does the company give out a new code or am i just out of luck?

send a message to them or call them and tell them that day. When that has happen to me they have issued me a new 1 time code to use. It seems their answer to pretty much all customer service problems is to issue a new code for any inconvenience. They have done that to me twice already. Once I went about 20 miles to get to a redbox that they had listed on their website and it was a mistake and the other time was for a dvd that didn’t play. It said Disc not Finalized when I tried to play it on my dvd player. and no it wasn’t a copy, it was the real disc.(Australia)

I can’t find anyway to send them a message about anything. I used to get Monday and Wednesday codes send to my email address and now I don’t. Why is that?

E-mail is sent from this site, you might want to try putting in your e-mail again in the box to your right “Insider Updates Newsletter”.

The Monday code sent by Redbox.com comes to your cell phone via text message or SMS. It’s sent by Redbox.com go there and re-enter your e-mail.

It’s possible that earthlink is blocking the mail in a spam filter. Check to make sure both sites are whitelisted (allowed to pass through the filter).

Please don’t blame anyone but yourself for the massive spam you may get since you posted your e-mail above in the clear for everyone to see, which means it will be easily picked up by spam bots. You should know better, it’s pretty obvious since it’s 2009 and people have been getting spammed for years. Do you also give out your other personal information so easily? Can I have your Human Resource Social Serial Number? If a company has an inventory all listed under serial numbers, they can go get a secured loan. Can you connect the dots? Who owns the inventory of Human Resources (YOU) ?

They were having problems with their servers or something on Monday, the screen said “Routing…” for a long time for me too but it finally went through after about 20 or 30 seconds. The CC check also took a long time.

Now you know at what point(s) it contacts the main servers for authorization.

CAR, CAR, CAR….. Now that the rush of entries for Monday’s promo code are over, suspend your disbelief for a second and follow along… SUPPOSE, when a certain inquiring person yesterday went to use their monday code( knowing their Monday codes always work for them on both their credit and debit card in their state/area) that they swiped their cc or debit card and then they ”ACCIDENTALLY” (ACCIDENTALLY I tell you, ACCIDENTALLY!) typed in the wrong zipcode for a completely different zip other than the one that matches their registered cc or debit card, or the area they’re in –AND IT STILL WORKED! IT WORKED I TELL YOU! IT WORKED!–…i, i, i mean we’re just supposing this happened and it stilll worked because this is all hypothetical of course… And then SUPPOSE when they got home and checked their email Redbox receipts for the dvd that they ACCIDENTALLY typed in the wrong zip, and the email receipt for the other dvd they got with their debit card (having remembered to type in the correct zip for that dvd), that BOTH dvds receipts came to the correct email, and BOTH dvd had a receipt balance of zero b/c of the # of the promo code used. Because this ‘supposedly’ and ‘accidentally’ happened (and not that the cc or debit user punched in the wrong zip on purpose to check/verify a theory!)–Wouldn’t this go to prove/verify that when some shared promo codes are used by others in different areas/states, that if the promo code is at first punched in/accepted, the person chooses a dvd, gets a zero balance on screen, asked to swipe their card, does so, ACCEPTS THE CARD for that shared promo code, and then asks for zip, the person puts in their zip registered for their card AND THEN THE SCREEN RETRACTS the promo code and says ‘promo code already used’ (EVEN WHEN the person knows they’ve NEVER used the code before) –wouldn’t this prove/verify that when you are asked to put in your zipcode AFTER swiping/accepting your card for the code used, that Redbox is not checking to see if the zip code matches the registered cc or debit card used, BUT it’s checking to verify if/that the promo code ALSO MATCHES the zip/area/or state location the code’s good/works in? Therefore, for some codes that only seem to work for a lot of people in a certain zip/area/state, that if they shared also the zip where their code worked, and then if others not in their zip area ‘ACCIDENTALLY’ typed in the working zip with the code, that the shared code MIGHT JUST WORK for more people in more states/areas/zips. Wouldn’t this also verify/prove that when you type in, for example,a strictly Walgreen location code at a nearby Walmart, and then on the Walmart screen it says ‘not valid at this location’–that it is referring to only the store location and not the state/zip/area location. Anyway, maybe if you, or others, in whatever states they’re in might someday “ACCIDENTALLY” type in the wrong zip for a known working code, like the Monday code, that they’re using and then discover that the code still works for them….we’ll then maybe some real theories/code cracking could be formed. Any ‘accidental discoveries’ this week, or next monday, please report of this Monday April 20th Promo CODE blog so not looking all over the site for them. If you’ve never seen the movie 21, you should watch it. It’s very good. It’s about blackjack participants who weren’t actually illegally cheating at blackjack, no crime committed; they were just good with manipulating numbers/the system to work for them!

What the heck are you babling about? The zip code is only for the banks security purposes if your bank doesnt have that feature it wont matter what zip you put in it will always accept it. I know my bankofamerica card wont let me put in a different zip it will reject it cuz it has that security feature.

PS-I cant believe I just read that Wall of Text! *goes back to work*

Klit, then can you please tell me why, for instance, today when I returned yesterday’s dvds I tried the newer codes that I’d yet not tried on the Codes Page and when/as I punched each one in, the screen IMMEDIATELY stated Code invalid…Sorry For the inconvenience, etc…. EXCEPT for the two codes GKH5VXD and the code 56GZGSQ. For these two codes, when I punched them at the beginning, it accepted them, the screen with the dvd choices came up, I chose a dvd, the screen with the transaction #promo code i used and then the $1 minus the $1 promo code used for a zero balance came on the screen, it asked for me to swipe my card, I did, accepted my cc, asked for me the punch in my zip AND ONLY THEN did it retract and say ‘promo code already used’. Can you please tell me why it accepts some codes all the way to almost the very end, gives a zero balance, accepts my card, AND ONLY AFTER I put in the zip does it retract and say promo code already used…AND NO I HAD NOT USED THESE TWO CODES BEFORE. In the FAQ section Michael states he’s not sure why but that some people report in some areas/states certain codes don’t work for them. Well I’m reporting that certain codes, like the above 2 that I mentioned, worked for me all the way UNTIL I put in my AREA ZIPCODE. And like how the Monday promo code is only suppose to be good for ONE use PER PERSON, people soon found out AND SHARED that if they put in that same code only using one of their different cc or debit cards that they could use the same Monday promo code to get a second dvd! MAYBE in my state/area the Redboxes are programmed differently than in other states that it’s accepting shared codes for me UNTIL I put in my zip. I don’t know. I’m only trying to find out to see if there’s a way around it– like people found out AND SHARED that using a second cc or debit card allowed them to get a second dvd with the Monday promo code! Four of the codes I tried today IMMEDIATELY said invalid or code already used. The 2 above mentioned codes were accepted IMMEDIATELY, took me all the way through the process of giving me a zero balance, and only AFTER I put in my ZIP did it retract and the screen said promo code already used. I’m only trying to find out why and if this happens to any one else.

WARNING… WARNING…. COMMENT OVERLOAD!! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!!
(from the robot on Lost In Space)

The box knows what area it is in, so it’s not the zip code, the zip check is just the last step in authorizing your card. Like others have said many times before, sometimes the zip code check doesn’t matter depending on what bank you are dealing with.

Could be some sort of strange software glitch, I can’t think of any technical advantage it would give us, and is really just a pain in the ass if it’s true.

When you type in a code it contacts the main database over the network, you can see the delay, and I am sure it knows what machine is checking in so it should know what place the machine is from before allowing the code to be used.

In all this time I’ve never seen this happen but I will try those codes you mentioned today when I return my movies today, just for fun. Those codes look like normal one time use codes.

Okay, so I just looked through my credit and debit card papers; the papers state all of them have the zipcode bank security feature that Klit refers to above. I even double checked by calling ALL them/ the representatives for discover, visa, first national bank. The Representatives looked up my accounts AND VERIFIED that yes they all have the zip/bank security feature–and they even went thru how proud they were to offer this feature. So if I ACCIDENTALLY had put in the wrong zipcode yesterday (you know accidents happen, as blogger Sacramento mentioned) for Monday’s promo code, and the promo code still worked, what would that mean? And why do my Redboxes in my area keep accepting some of the shared promo codes all the way to the end UNTIL I put in my area’s zipcode and then it retracts and says ‘promo code already used’. Ohhhhh, the agony…

Confirmed, rb is right, I tried GKH5VXD, 56GZGSQ and also J3P711 tonight, they all show a $0.00 total but after you swipe and enter the zip code it acts just like you have used that promo code before “promo code already used”. This is the first time I’ve ever tried those codes.

It doesn’t make any sense why they would do this, but it’s possible that they want to annoy anyone who tries to use someone else’s one time use code, or just to make it more difficult to identify a used code.

I still don’t think the zip code matters in this situation.

I have typed in the wrong zip for a Amex card I use into the red box and it still accepted it. I was shocked to find it didn’t give me an error message. That was ACCIDENTALLY on my part. I was typing it in fast and it didn’t get all the numbers I typed in and hit ok before I looked up and noticed it was wrong.

I was unable to use the Monday codes yesterday. I went to both machines at a local Wal-Mart and instead of it displaying routing for 20-30 seconds, I stood there for about a minute or 2. Then it goes to a screen saying that it could not process the code and that it was sorry for the inconvenience – please try again later. i’m starting to get skeptical about codes now, because is like the 2nd or 3rd instance where the codes did not work for me.

CAR, THANK YOU for suspending your disbelief for a second and trying, just for fun, those 2 codes I mentioned yesterday and VERIFYING that I’m not some crazy troll over here in Western PA whose making up things just to cause mischief for everyone else. I’ve just been a crazy frustrated person. For around every 5 new codes from the code page I try per week, at least 1 or 2 do this: accept the code but then retract after I put in my zip. I just read Sacramento’s blog from yesterday where he/she got 2 different 1x codes b/c had to go to another working redbox kiosk….and I just remembered around mid March, only around 1 week after I discovered/starting using Redbox/kiosk/promo codes, I too went to return a dvd at my local grocery store and the previous person must have returned their dvd incorrectly, dvd was jammed/stuck, the screen was flashing with message something like arrow must face in for return.. Anyway, I had to return my dvd to another kiosk in same mall. When I got home called Redbox and reported the jammed dvd/non working kiosk. Lady asked me to hold on while she checked the status of the jammed kiosk; around 2 minutes later she came back on and said it was verified as jammed, they were getting an employee to fix it immediately, and for my inconvienence of having to return to another kiosk was giving me a 1x code to be used within 30 days. Then she asked me ONLY for my home address zipcode; I gave it to her. Then she gave me the 1x use code. I asked her if she needed the account number of the card I’d be using–she said no. So I’m now thinking that she must have remotely PROGRAMMED that 1x code to be successful ONLY WHEN COMBINED with the ZIP I gave her. I bet it wouldn’t have worked for me had I ‘accidentally’ put in the wrong zip. It would be too much of a patron’s personal security breach for every inconvenienced patron to give out their cc or debit card # that they might be using, so redbox must program/connect the code to the patron’s given home zip for the code to be successful for that patron/person no matter what cc or debit card they use for that 1x code and no matter at what kiosk they use it–even in a different state just like how a person can rent a redbox dvd in a state other than where they live. The only thing I can think of as to why a shared code is accepted by another person using it all the way to almost the end UNTIL that person puts in their zip–is if the original person sharing the 1x code had not used it yet…but then that sharing person would have to be really generous or just plain stupid to not realize that once the 1x code is used by another it can’t be used by their own self—– UNLESS they’re really smart and cracked a way to still use it after someone else has used it!!!!! We need some disgruntled ex redbox employee to give the scoop on exactly how some codes are programmed to work. For instance, when my local Giant Eagle grocers had a special of buy $15 of frozen food get a coupon for a free redbox code only to be used at that G.E. grocers, was the working code remotely programmed in by Redbox headquarters, or did the local redbox employee who manages that giant eagle kiosk manually program it in…And if I was at a G.E. across the same state but not in the zip/ area where the G.E. code originated, and if I had then ‘accidentally’ typed in the zip of the original G.E.–would the code have worked…….thinking, thinking…

Hey whiny baby, use your brain “d-bag”! Exercise some of those neurons, “Code already used” means **you** used it once already **on that card**.

Did you think you could just use it over and over?

It’s sad that you went all the way to a Redbox just to find out that your brain isn’t being used. They consider someone to have “no life” when there’s no neural activity, and I would say that counts!

Yeah, I’ve seen this copied comment on this site before… At least Car on his April 21st blog at 9:44 pm, (and anyone else who tried the 2 codes I commented on yesterday) know and verified (see comments within those codes on code page) that ‘promo code already used’ DOES NOT always mean that that specific person is brainless/without neurons and knowingly trying to use a code that they have already used before. Thing is, the first ones to be in line for a free dvd at a redbox kiosk if we can figure out how to get some codes to work for more people are the ones like fat loser!

At least you rb, explained that you know you have never used the code before, unlike a whiny baby calling everyone a “d-bag” for trying to use codes from here.

I took the extra trouble to do the test to confirm, and took the time to try 3 codes instead of just incoherently whining about it. Helping people here really pisses off loser whiny people who never lift a finger to help anyone, oh well.

Monday the 20th code did not work.

  12. Visitor [Join Now]
    rb [visitor]

Okay all…I talked with an actual IBM computer programmer I know. He said Redbox software would be very sophisticated. If a code is of course valid ,and then takes you all the way to almost the end, especially if code is still not rejected AFTER you put in your cc or debit card, then it has to do with the zip you’re putting in. The zip you’re putting in not only can be a security feature on the cc or debit card you’re using, but the zip also recognizes the part of country you are in. Some codes, like Monday’s promo code, are designed to work in all parts of the country–therefore all areas, all zipcodes, all users in the whole country. Some codes would be designed to only work in certain parts of the country–thus designed for all the zips within that part of the country. ( How maybe code BIGMAC might be designed to work at all McDonalds in the western states, but code McNUGGETS designed to work at all McDonalds in the eastern states) He said once you swipe your cc or debit card, your info goes to Redbox main headquarters and Redbox knows immediately the users identity: name/address/zip/card and account number/ if code they’re using has already been used before by THAT user’s card. So if code not rejected immediately after swiping your card, but then after putting in your zip, then the code has been designed to be area/zip sensitive. WHICH WAS MY THEORY ALL ALONG! Once you swipe your card, redbox already then knows that user’s zip. If it’s still accepting the code after swiping your card, then your actual zip (which redbox now knows from your valid cc or debit card swiped) is of no consequence to the code working for you or not. What is of consequence is the zip you then PUNCH IN because that has to match one of the zips for the area of the country/state the code was designed to work in. So say if the code was designed to work for an area with zips 20000 through 20500 and you punched in your actual zip of 20501, it would still be a valid code BUT not valid for the zip/area you punched in. Also, because maybe 10 kiosks are located within say the zipcode 20480, redbox might have designed a different way, other than by zip sensitivity, to identify each specific kiosk–which would be why when you put in the code it’s not immediately rejected as invalid if you’re using at a kiosk in an area/zip the code wasn’t designed to work for. Computer programmer said the only way he can think to have the code work for an area/zip it wasn’t designed to work in, is if the zip(s) of the working code was known and /accidentally’ used. Hey, didn’t I think that all along! This could definitely answer why some codes have been reported working in only certain areas of the country/state and not for all in the country/state. Me thinks Michael should include a box not only for the state in which you tried a certain promo code, but also the zip you punched in for that code!

Want a FREE one time use code? DON’T LET THEM GET AWAY WITH THIS!

Everyone call Redbox, from 7:00 a.m. to midnight Central Time, 7 days a week at 1.866.733.2693 (1.866.REDBOX3)

Complain that you entered a code and it went through, let you select a movie, and showed $0 total but when you swiped your card etc… it said “code already used” and that you know that you have never used that code.

As far as you are concerned the code was valid, the transaction was valid and you should have gotten a free movie. Maybe you were pissed and decided to walk away instead of getting the two other movies you picked which you were willing to pay for. Lost sale!

I just did that, the guy apologized, asked me what code I used, put me on hold for a about a minute and came back with a one time code!

He never asked my name or any CC info (they will ask sometimes for last 4 digits when you have problems with a particular movie). I asked him to make sure the higher ups know about this problem.

The codes that I personally did this with are GKH5VXD, 56GZGSQ and also J3P711. So I am going to do this 2 more times, and might get 2 more codes.

If enough of us complain they will realize that this is ANNOYING to customers and will stop it now before it becomes a common practice (if they are doing this on purpose).

That will teach them for getting “wise to you d-bags”.

rb, you are reading way too much into this zip code thing. Swiping your card and entering the zip code are both part of the normal credit card verification.

The software queries the network database after you enter both of those things, it doesn’t query once for a CC swipe and then again after you enter a zip. Too much network activity that way.

The CC number, zip and promo code go out in one packet to be checked against the database to see if you already used that code (like using BREAKROOM).

It won’t stop after you swipe and say “code already used”. Programing wise it just doesn’t make any sense.

And again, the box knows what zip code / area it is in. That’s why we get “not valid at this location” errors for some codes BEFORE swiping a card (like a McD code at a non McD location).

If a code is area specific it should tell you right away, there’s no technical reason it can’t so anything else is either a mistake or just to annoy us.

Either way, go get a free code before they fix it!

Car, then explain to me 2 things: #1…When I reported a jammed kiosk, the lady put me on hold while the lady remotely checked/verified that the kiosk I was reporting as jammed, was actually jammed (and I wasn’t just reporting it to get a free 1x code). The only information the lady asked me for before giving me a 1x code for my inconvenience was MY home address zip. (She already looked up/knew the location/zip of the jammed kiosk so had nothing to do with location of the kiosk I might be using for the 1x code) Did the guy ask you for your home zip before giving you the 1x code for inconvenience? #2…, Why, say, when using the working Monday code if a person accidentally puts in their incorrect zip the code still works for them, as reported by me and others–even when the person has the bank/zip security feature on the cc or debit card they used…..

My question is, why haven’t you called them? Do you want this to continue? It’s going to be a free code for the first few people who complain, after that if they fix it…. YOU SNOOZE YOU LOSE!

The guy didn’t ask for my zip code.

It’s possible the zip code entry part isn’t doing anything at this time.

Maybe they had it working at first and too many people were messing it up with that crappy keyboard so a corporate style decision was made to disable it rather than possibly lose a sale or frustrate customers.

If the card verifies and charges OK with Visa or M/C what do they care? It may be there just to scare off the scammers. Every location I have been to has a camera installed just above the box.

Maybe the authorization system they use isn’t processing the zip code at this time, regardless of what the banks say. Why would the bank tell you “no, our security sucks and isn’t working”, they would always tell you they check everything, even if they don’t.

I’m sure the programmers at Redbox are reading this and having a giggle watching us try to guess what they are doing.

That was my thought about with the Monday code–that maybe they disable, only on Mondays, the security feature of checking that the cc or debit card zip matches the zip being punched in–just to try to get the monday code to work for as many people as possible and help eliminate one more reason for disgruntled calls from people on Mondays. Since I started using redbox around 6 weeks ago, some codes have always been accepted for me UNTIL I put in my zip–so I never called b/c I thought this was part of the norm or the way the shared code was/wasn’t programmed to work. As far as caring about the security feature if my cc or debit card only works when MY home zip is also punched in–don’t care. Don’t have enough $ in my accounts to care–and besides, who is going to steal someone’s credit card and risk jail time by using the stolen card for a used dvd at a redbox! Oh well, I’m done playing detective and theorizing about the promo codes that are rejected only after I put in my zip! I’ll contact redbox and report the codes that are accepted for me until after I enter my zip. If that continues to happen for me as it has in the past, I should be able to get 2-3 free promo codes PER WEEK just for my inconvenience! Have a great weekend.

One more thing, when you sign up with a e-mail and receive a one time code, they don’t know your zip code. Go get a gmail account and try it.

Where do you get the codes that don’t work for you? Maybe they are not suppose to work for you.

When I used a new CC and entered my email address they sent me a 1x code as a new member. Probably sent you one also.

When I redeemed thecode, I put a movie in my cart, added the promo code and checked out.
The process went just as you described:
It processed the code, took off the $1 and showed a transaction amount of $0.00.
I swiped my CC and entered my zip and the transaction finalized.

Now, don’t you think that if I had used a CC other than the one that the code was sent for that it would have charged me $1, probably so.

Some codes are user specific, not zip code specific.
The system initially processes the code because it doesn’t who is standing there, it just knows the code is valid. But if the correct CC is not used for the transaction then that makes the code invalid so it charges you $1. If the code had already been used by the person it was sent to it would have came up invalid when it was entered.

I don’t see where the problem is in figuring that out.
People should not list user specific codes for others to try and use.

If you enter a e-mail at the Redbox WEBSITE they e-mail you back a code, no CC needed, no zip used, it’s not attached to “you” as id. I doubt they connect the code to your CC, too much trouble. What if you decide to use it on another card you have?

What about codes off of McD drink cups? Or printed on “cat” receipts from a grocery store?

Next time you are at a Redbox, put in your USED one time use code at the first screen. Most likely it will say “promo code already used” first thing, without you having to swipe your card.

What we are talking about are codes that look like one time use codes that are posted here, but when you go to use them they show $0 total and go all the way to the CC swipe + zip before they say they have been used already, like the codes BREAKROOM or DVDONME work if you have used them already, but the point is that you have never used them before.

So we are speculating why this is happening, if they are doing it on purpose or it’s just some sort of glitch in their system.

Next time you are out, try them and see what I mean, GKH5VXD, 56GZGSQ and also J3P711. Then call and complain.

You don’t think the system can tie an email address and a CC together.

When you swipe your card it comes up with an email address to verify.

When you reserve online by signing in with your email address, it knows what CC to charge.

If they send a code to an email address they know which CC to use with it. Anyone can type in an email address but only you can use your CC that is associated with that account. The email, CC and code can be tied together but the only valid link to the code is the CC.

Codes on drink cups and such like the Monday codes are not user specific so they can be used by anyone. Whether they are 1x or multiuse is unknows until you try them.

You are correct at one thing, it is all speculation. But I think you need to look at it differently. What you refer to as “too much trouble” for them to tie the code to “you” is no trouble at all.

I don’t need to try any codes other than the Monday codes. I use the Monday code right after midnight and get the new releases for FREE. I live in the Eastern time zone. And I also don’t mind paying $1 per movie if there are more movies than I have credit cards.

jimates, you don’t have to sign in to give them your e-mail, you don’t have to have a redbox account to get a free code.

Yes they could do it, but I was trying to point out all the reasons not to and the trouble that it would cause the customer who might have more than one CC, or might decide to give the code to a friend.

Next time you get a one time code, try it with a different card. Some of this speculation can be proved with a few tests.

I have to go along with much of what jimates says…. This morning, I reported a code I’d never used that was accepted until after I put in my zip. The Redbox CSR was a lot more thorough than the one that dealt with Car. In the order of questions she asked me: the exact code I used, my zipcode, my state, the last 4 digits of the cc I used for the code, AND MY NAME as on the card. Around 3 minutes later she came back and gave me a code for my inconvenience. I asked her why would it accept only to reject a code I’d never used before AFTER I put in my zip. She said she wasn’t sure but probably the machine “misread” my card. (Well then it’s been misreading all 3 of my cards the past 6 weeks). BUT THEN, I check my emails around an hour later and there was an email from the Redbox/ the CSR stating that as per our conversation, she was giving me a new code. The email then stated the exact 1x use code she gave me on the phone, and it said to use within 45 days…. She didn’t ask nor did I give her my email address during our phone conversation–she got my email as connected to my cc. Also, I blew a golden opportunity. When I went to use the code, I should have used a different cc than the cc with the last 4 digits that I gave her –just to see if the code would still work for me– or if she programmed it to only be valid when used by the card for which I gave her the 4 digits.., Got the new Sly Stallone dvd “Eye for You”. It was worth watching; had a Yahoo rating of “B”.

Well, Monday’s code didn’t work for myself or my friends, so we each shot off an identical email to Redbox.

And we received three different answers. One convenience code, one ‘sorry for the inconvenience but there’s nothing we can do about it’, and one ‘we’ve shared this information with the appropriate parties’.

Were I doing a qualitative study based on these responses, 33% of respondents would be apologetic customer service representatives (CSRs) who try to quickly remedy any problem, 33% would be antagonistic CSRs who don’t feel obligated to solve any problem, and 33% would be procrastinating CSRs who leave your problem in an unresolved state. Numbers Redbox doesn’t want to see, but anymore people are just taking desk jobs for their paycheck, not you as a customer.

And it’s nice that Redbox offers codes, but they don’t explicitly guarantee them.

I think I read by one of the bloggers that emailing Redbox with a problem/concern never gets anything solved; you need to call them.

Or, the first to call about that location got a one time use code, the next is like “we know about it already”. First to call gets the code!

You didn’t say if it was the same location or not.

    Hey Michael,
Is there any way that I can block individual posters? Some peope here are always acting like jerks. It sure would be nice not to see their posts.

Thanks for all your hard work.

Yea I wnt to block everyone except people who post codes and people who work hard to tesst the codes so I dont have to. I just want the codes —> good confirmed working codes. What is all this other crap? Who cares if some code needs CCzipper verify as long as it works and someone reports it so I dont waste gas. Then a guy wants to kill another guy who posts here – WTF? My time is important, unlike you unimployed types who hang here I have a job and a lexus payment I don’t have time to test these things, I just want a free movie now. I just want to see movie reviews so I don’t get a bogus movie, block the others please set that up now, why arnt people saying stuff about the movies so I dont waste my time. what is this site for then?

Who the hell do you think you are? What makes you more important than anyone else? Because you have a job? Most people on here have jobs, it’s not just a bunch of unemployed (not “unimployed” like you spelled it) people that want free movies, everyone likes free movies. But if you’re SO RICH that you drive a Lexus what do you need free movies for? Obviously you’re not that rich or you wouldn’t be on here scrounging for free movies now would you? Why don’t you get off your high horse and chill out, the world doesn’t revolve around you like you seem to think. Just check for your free codes and drive your REALLY OLD beat up Volkswagen or whatever you REALLY drive and shut up! And by the way you might want to spend some time learning to spell!

Hey Tommy2….Next time you go get a movie at Redbox, you should get the movie VINYAN–it’s a really great movie! I hear The Spirit is also very good! Don’t “wnt” you to waste your time having to “tesst” codes either since you’re the only one “imployed” here and busy polishing your lexus. Therefore, just go to your local WalMart and use the code DvdatWag–it always works at Walmart!

I have accidently typed in the wrong zip with “REDBOX” the last few days and keep getting free rental (hypothetically 22 free rentals) and i have seen almost every movie in the machine.

hypothetical details: renting in iowa at walgreens everytime. always use the “rent with promo code” on the main screen. change the last 2 digits of your zip.
