Les Miserables Trailer and Preview

In our never-ending quest to keep you informed and up-to-date on movie and home entertainment happenings, Inside Redbox regularly takes a look at major films coming out in the near(ish) future that are already generating buzz and anticipation. This time around we’re spotlighting the upcoming musical Les Miserables.

Here’s the just-released trailer:

Yes, it’s a movie based on a musical based on a novel. You might just want to give it a chance, however, since Les Miserables is one of the most beautiful and stirring musicals ever created. An all-star cast led by Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe add to the draw. Anne Hathaway doesn’t sound half-bad as Fantine in this trailer, either.

Les Miserables will start singing in theaters this Christmas. Will you be there?

Maybe. I loved the stage version and I don’t normally like musicals.

I haven’t seen a musical at the movies since ‘Phantom of the Opera’. I do love the more classic musicals (Sound of Music, Oklahoma, Gigi, My Fair Lady, etc.). And I have been a Russell Crowe fan (not so much lately because he hasn’t really had a recent movie I’ve liked; still love Master and Commander, Gladiator, LA Confidential) — but I’m not sure I’ll be heading out for this one. Looks beautiful, sounds lovely — but I’m not getting a thrill down my spine. Maybe I’ll go, but right now, December is for The Hobbit, which is on my MUST SEE list for 2012. More than likely, I’ll be renting Les Miz on DVD sometime in 2013.
