netflix-logoNetflix and Verizon are allegedly working together to speed up the former’s service on the latter, but that’s not stopping the two companies from sniping at each other over slow Netflix speeds on Verizon’s network. Verizon claims that Netflix is deliberately running more slowly than it needs to.

Verizon vice president David Young wrote the following in a blog post:

“For whatever reason (perhaps to cut costs and improve its profitability), Netflix did not make arrangements to deliver this massive amount of traffic through connections that can handle it . . . Instead, Netflix chose to attempt to deliver that traffic to Verizon through a few third-party transit providers with limited capacity over connections specifically to be used only for balanced traffic flows. Netflix knew better.”

Netflix has fired back via spokesman Joris Evers, who included a bit of snark:

“We’d like to thank Verizon for laying out the issue so nicely . . . Congestion at the interconnection point is controlled by ISPs like Verizon.

When Verizon fails to upgrade those interconnections, consumers get a lousy experience despite paying for more than enough bandwidth to enjoy high-quality Netflix video.

In other words, both companies continue to point accusing fingers at the other. But which is actually right, if either?

Not only are both Verizon and NetFlix responsible for the bottleneck problems, but also, COMCAST should be included in the mix as making the streaming experience far far less than ideal for subscribers.

I don’t think NetFlix has much to do with it… I think it is Verizon trying to get NetFlix to PAY THEM. ARE PAY THEM MORE. ?
Comcast is the worst. And if the Comcast/Time Warner deal goes through?
    This will only get worse.
I don’t count of the FCC are the joke Government to stop that from going through. Even when 95% of the people have said. NO! NO!
Just be ready for your service to get much worse..

Of course Netflix would want to slow down traffic to Verizon customers… Verizon is a competitor (they are partners with redbox streaming service).

honestly .. and im not big on conspiracy theories or things like that…BUT.. now that NETFLIX and VERIZON have been brought up. first of course VERIZON is going to try and slow them down..its comp..i agree with TINYBRAT.

BUT THATS NOT WHY IM WRITING THIS…

DOES ANYBODY ACTUALLY HAVE REDBOX INSTANT??? isd their a way to take a POLL somehwere..maybe it can be setup here.. a poll of those who have REDBOX INSTANT,those who dont, those who wouldnt and those who would if they opened the sign up process back up.

anyway -the reason i bring all this up is about more then a month ago now i went to sign up. it started to let me and everythinng. then POOF it went away and a big CREDIT CARD FRAUD warning popped up. something about credit card trhieves using the sign up process as a way to test if cards were still valid. im not a thief but i know of 100s of waysd to find out if a card is valid vs signing up for REDBOX INSTANT..you could find out just by sliding the card a REDBOX terminal! ..for anyone who doesnt know .they place a hold of course on your ard until you return the renatl.that HOLD would let a theif know the card is valid.

ANYWAY it has been over a month for me. redbox has bought me off with tons of credits..but honestly i wouuld really just like the REDBOX INSTANT .. same price as NETFLIX and 4 credits a month.. …

when i call REDBOX they transfer me and customer service hfor redbox instant says “we are stillworking on thematter and cannot say anything else due to who we are working witrh-i guess they mean the law …

here is the thing.. with NETFLIX using vrizon.. and REDBOX rolling out with verizon!..im guessing that the credit card fraud thingis just that..a thing.

i could be wrong.the timing and all…plus the fact that no other business has ever shut down any program this long..i mean look at TARGET recently losing millions and millions of credit card numbers to PC hackers…THEY DIDNT SHUT THEIR DOORS FOR AN HOUR! REDBOX INSTANT is shutdown because of a few credit card checks-that most thieves can do in 10 secs anywhere else ..but tghey went through the entire sign up process online ,filling in information and ectect..

hey if this wasnt the place for this im sorry. i wasnt sure where to put it.

also REDBOX was really cool about it of course when it came to credits. they gave me the 4 i would have gotten for signing up.

sorry,in case you havent tried.. the entire webdite is rolled out and all but in the left corner it has a thing to click for new accounts and this is what pops up:

“We have temporarily stopped new customer registrations. Our monitoring systems detected that criminals were misusing our new customer registration process to validate credit card numbers illegally obtained from some other sources.”

“This did not involve the compromise of customer information, so our current customers can continue to watch great videos to their heart’s content without reason for worry. We are taking this step to make sure that criminals are not misusing our system to hurt innocent third parties. We will continue to cooperate with law enforcement as needed.”

its been six weeks+ ??? -ok im done. i would love comments!

      Hi,

When I went to RedBox to start up again. I got the same.
Went back a few days later and they took me.
Yes like you said. Look at Target. But Target has the BIG BIG $$ to burn to take care of it. RedBox does not have that BIG BIG $$ to burn..
But I think there is something a bit more going on here then meet’s the eye.
I mean RedBox need’s to have things going for the public. And get new people.
A & B is not C here all the way.. More to this then we know about..
Hope you can get back on soon..

        DANO-
hey i agree about what you said with target..BUT..look at the issue they are saying that is holding up the progress. i understand MONEY of course can be a factor.. but were talking about something the crooks could do everyday all day at the kiosks. they were checking to see if a card was still active. ..shouldnt have been more then even 24 hours. ALSO ARE YOU A MEMBER OF INSTANT?
AND DID YOU HAVE THE WARNING AND THEY STILL LET YOU JOIN?

thank you so much for your time-pete

          PETE.

Yes I am a member of RedBox Instant and (4) DVD’s a month.. At the box.
I got the Warning page you did.. And could not join.
Went back a few day’s later and the warning page was gone.
And I got it going. This was all about 10 days ago..
I see no warning page on anything on my account..
I also have NetFlix in the mail three at a time. And the streaming deal.
          And Warner Bros streaming deal.
And yes you are so right… Crooks can rip off the kiosks right and left
all day.. And you are so right. 24,48 Hrs at the tops. They should of had to taken care off.
WHEN I WENT BACK THE SECOND TIME TO JOIN. THE WARNING WAS GONE! ( DO YOU STILL GET IT)?
          Drop in..

THANX DANO!.. for all the info..

AND NO I STILL CANT SIGN UP and YES the WARNING is still in the upper left corner.. also on the regular REDBOX page that has the add..the ad is theri but the big RED SIGN UP BUTTON IS NOW GONE AS WELL!.. you can se the offer but nothing to click.that is how i got their before.

also i finally wrote REDBOX and asked them straight up and to not even waste their time unless they had an ETA for me. i even let them know in the letter that i already have called and chatted and all i wanted was AN ETA.. that was it.. i got a real person email..not AUTO.. but it was the same thing they say on the phone.right down to the T.. its like scripted. they are working with LAW ENFORCEMENT TO MAKE SURE IT DOESNT HAPPEN AGAIN.sorry for my frutration and their is no ETA. I ALSO ASKED SINCE NO CURRENT MEMBERS HAVE BEEN CORRUPTED…WHICH I AM ON REGULAR REDBOX.WHY CANT I SIMPLY JUST SWITCH… they didnt answer that ..either in chat, the phone or email..

wait where are you at i was told on the phone their have been no new signups at all.PERIOD. they were not allowing the NATIONWIDE. do you mind sharing even the state?.. thanx!

also how does the REDBOX STREAM..any lag?.. i would hope if you are on VERIZON either dsl/fios that it would be a bonus of sorts??..

thanx DANO FOR all the information and ..for the record the email today said again they have had no new signups since the incident which was now almost 2 months ago.-peter

            Peter..
I get some other page?? I am in Riverside Calif.. Why you can’t sign up??? I could not sign up for a few days… I got the page you are getting. But it was taken down in a few day’s. I did sign up 7/7/14.
            Np prob.
I wonder what the real deal is.. ? This bit has been going on to long.. And if people can’t sign up. That is Money out the door for them..
Something they can’t put up with very long.
Something is going on. What You got me….
And I bet you are right! When you call about it. They have everyone on the same page with a scrip. Right down to the T.
I think they are not telling everything. But in the end it will come out.
If you are sick of the Box… Try NetFlix. I have them online and three out in the mail. I don’t know where you are at.. But the turn around time for me in the mail is great. I send a movie back to them M/T/W.
I get a new one W/T/F. And if you like old TV shows and movies.. Online. You can try Warner Bros Archive. $9.99 a month.
One thing.. I am seeing my NetFlix/RedBox/Warner Bros online starting to slow down in the last week. Over the last year. My NetFlix and Warner Bros Online has been going A + I would find a movie are TV show and Zip be watching it in about 10 Sec.. No prob.. But in the last week. It has been getting slower and slower. Now it takes about 2 mins to get going.. And some times they jump and all that bit. RedBox Takes a time to start also.. And getting on the slow side. I think this is just one more step that Comcast/Verizon/has
put in place. So when Comcast gets Time Warner. They can pull the fast land bit on everyone. And Verizon will pull the same bit. To get you to pay up the kisser. And then the caps. One more B.S rip off.
As is the Fast Lane bit. Hell I am going at 112 Mbps right now.
But I bet my next year.My 112 Mbps will be called the fast lane.
And they will charge $30.00 $40.00 a month more for it….?
BUT I just got a letter from Time Warner saying they are going to keep my Net Price the same for one more year.. $70.00 a month for
net speed 100-115 Mbps.. all I can use…
So I will just sit tight and see what comes up..
But one thing.. I don’t count on the FCC are the Government to do much to make the net better for everyone..
Have a good one.. And drop in……
            Danno! Book’em Danno!…;)

I have both Netflix and Verizon. I have noticed over the last two months that I have been getting a lot of buffering. But it’s not just Netflix. I watch the Smithsonian Channel on my Roku box and it takes forever to load movies and it has a lot of buffering issues – more than Netflix. Yes, something is afoot because none of these issues existed two months ago, and I’ve been a Netflix subscriber for years!

i use a ROKU as well. i havent noticed and DRAG at all. on my PC with NETFLIX i have but not using a ROKU.

when you say you have VERIZON to do you mean you use their service ..as in their DSL..or FIOS.. if so you would think since VERIZON is one of NETFLIXs main sources for bandwidth their would be less drag and not more..then again DRAG isnt always about BANDWIDTH..but im still using only a ROKU 1 ..and im fine!

please let me know if you have redbox instant?- thank you so much for your time -and yes ..im not big on conspiracies and such but WAY TO MUCH MONEY IS AT STAKE HERE.. im sure VERIZON if anything..being in the MIDDLE of both REDBOX and NETFLIX.. probably crossed some kind of contract/line/breach or something with NETFLIX..something that obviously they dont want the public to know. why they hatch out who is gonna earn what and get what!..after all..neither one of these companies wants to look bad once the greed settles.

.. im not buying the CREDIT FRAUD.. AGAIN I AGREE THEY MIGHT NOT BE TARGET.. but its way to simple of a crime to shut down an entire service now for 2 months!… i also just spent sometime looking at numbers. first off i found this..wasnt sure if i could post link here.. but here is a TIDBIT when they asked about Redbox Instant $$ —

–“Redbox Instant by Verizon appears to be growing. But Outerwall, the parent company for Redbox and partner with Verizon in the joint venture behind the subscription rental service, won’t say by how much. ”

think about if you were the OWNER OF NETFLIX-who uses VERIZON..and then the very company you pump your streaming through is now also gonna stream as well… NETFLIX WANTS TO CORNER THE STREAMING MARKET…and this was a spit in the face by VERIZON. again-im sure they used some kind of contract thing or something ,NETFLIX THAT IS,some kind of court injunction to get a TEMPORARY HOLD ON NEW ACCOUNTS until NETFLIX has had its day in court… think if you were VERIZON.. my guess would be -you would LEAVE NETFLIX IN THE COLD and dedicate everything you would have given to NETFLIX to REDBOX INSTANT. either NETFLIX tossed up a redflag or VERIZON did and their in the courts..

these guys should remember that good ole TORRENTs and IRC ectect..they havent gone anywhere…LOL!

ISPs do control it. Netflix is right about that.

I have had Netflix for years and my Netflix has been dragging lately, constantly loading. When I first got Netflix this didn’t happen and I had slower speed internet, I have upped the speed and still get loading constantly. I think something is up since they got connected with Verizon. I really wish they would do something about this, it is getting very frustrating.

I have verizon fios for internet. I have both Netflix and Amazon Prime. My prime NEVER buffers and always has the highest quality picture it can.

Cannot say that for Netflix. Especially if it’s a Friday or Saturday night.
