Is a Netflix Price Hike Imminent?

imagesWould you rather pay more for Netflix or have to deal with ads on the streaming service. If you shouted “neither!” you may not have a choice soon, according to an industry expert.

During the recent Financial Times FT Digital Media conference, Martin Sorrell, who is the CEO of WPP, one of the largest advertising and PR companies in the world, spoke about Netflix. Sorrell talked about how high Netflix’s costs are, both on the licensing side and with original content as well.

Said Sorrell:

“Netflix is extremely powerful yet it has not yet achieved profitability — that old-fashioned thing that, at the end of the day, we are all interested in, in the long run,”

Sorrell went on to say that Netflix will be forced to make some tough—and likely unpopular—choices to attain profitability in the near future:

“In those circumstances, it will have to raise its subscription prices — and you can remember what the reaction was like to that last time around — or have an alternative revenue generation operation, one of which will be advertising,”

So we ask again: would you rather have a more expensive Netflix subscription, or deal with ads during your shows? Or would either one of those eventualities preclude you from subscribing?

I will be more then happy to pay a bit more. I Don’t want the B.S adds..
My streaming is set at $7.99 a month until June 2016. Even if it goes up 2,3 bucks a month. It will still be a great deal. No Adds…
    Just TV shows & Movies..

Everything goes up in price eventually, so nothing new. And until you watch commercial free TV shows, you don’t know how much better a show is, I hate commercials.

I think NetFlix will go up to $9.99 a month.. Just like Warner Archives. They are $9.99 a month. I have them for all the Old Tv Shows & Movies.
And at they price. It’s still a great deal.
As as people say. The shows are so much better with out the commercials..
    Commercials suck.

I would be willing to pay more to avoid ads. The content is there to justify a $1 or $2 increase. If netflix would just do it and wait through the complainers I think they would find most of those whiners either never quit during a price hike, or quit for a short time and came back.

Phyillis want me to drop drawer. The log is long and it is bumpy. Why does she complain of a salty taste?

If the expense is from creating the “original content” shows, get rid of ’em. There are more than enough shows and movies to pick from now. I can only watch one show at a time. Put that stuff on a separate tier and pay more for that, if you want it.

I wouldn’t mind ads at the beginning and/or end of each show.
I wouldn’t mind paying a tad bit more for no ads, as long as it is not more than a dollar or two. It’s not like we’ve got a raise lately.

I wouldn’t mind paying a little bit more for no ads. I would rather do that instead of watching ads. That is why I pay in the first place is for no ads. I get enough of ads on the computer everyday.

If Netflix puts ads into our movies…then they become no different than the other channels who do that….I have added channels to my Roku and now have 234 channels….I will simply delete Netflix …..I think I can survive without them…
