Netflix, which has flown so high for so long, may be finally starting to come down to earth. The streaming giant’s share price has fallen more than 15 percent in the last few weeks, and investors and analysts are taking notice.
Evercore ISI’s Ken Sena recently downgraded Netflix to a “sell”, citing “intensifying competitive environment necessitating increased investment with uncertain return.

The “intensifying competitive environment” that Sena is referring to includes a resurgent Amazon, which has a major original content hit with Transparent, as well as the imminent launch of HBO Now. There are also rumors that Netflix has backed out of negotiations for the streaming rights to Seinfeld, which will now likely go to a competitor.
What do you think, Insiders? Is Netflix past its prime, or will it be able to recover and grow even more?

-Is Netflix past its prime?
Netflix peaked in the first quarter of 2013. Its been on a free fall ever since. This is very late news.
Unless it comes up with some exclusives that are cheap to produce and attract “House of Cards” streaming activity. Netflix will continue to tank.
Agreed, and for good reason, new competition with open access streaming exploding on internet for free, PPV is in deep trouble.
I am glad they backed out of Seinfeld after what the actor said in his “comedy” show. I know more movies and Chelsea Handler is coming next year plus I’m locked into my pricing til May 2016 so gonna wait and see what’s available. I think more people still plan to leave cable so they may get more subscribers still
I am still with NetFlix. I am locked in until May 2016. And at $7.99 a month you can’t beat the price.. I watch 90% old stuff anyway. Most of the new stuff is trash. Something to think about.
1. When the Idiot FCC OK’s the Comcast Time Warner deal. And they will.
2. Comcast has all ready said. They are going to put a 300 GB limit on your Net Use. If you go over it. You pay up the kisser. ok. If you have a family of 4,5 you will be over it in no time. if you stream 7-10 HD movies a month. You are going to hit your cap. And be over. And that is not with your everyday net use. This will hurt the streaming deal bad. The Caps are going to hurt the streaming bit all over. HBO, Showtime all of them are starting it. Now if there are no caps on your net use. And the net is open like it is now.. It would be great to just pick what you want.. Pay by the month.. Great.
But the Idiot FCC and the people running the net are just going to shaft everyone with the Cap’s on your use.. The Net as we know it. Is about to take a big hit. And not for the good…
Just some thoughts..
Good thing I’m on DSL…
Your DSL is going to take hit just like the rest of the stuff. If the Caps go into place..
That’s the thing. I am going at 300 MBps right now on Time Warner..
The speed will not change the Caps use..
The Caps are what are going to screw everyone.. it’s just more greed from the Cable Co’s and all.
It will be market-driven – cable has had caps here and there for a long time; I haven’t seen DSL services do that (certainly not the ones I’ve used). I bet DSL will explore that advantage (not imposing caps) and attract more customers if cable goes ahead with it.
And there’s always anti-monopoly laws, if Comcast grows too large.
You are so right…. The Caps are what are going to screw everyone..
Three things will happen when Comcast gets Time Warner Cable….
The Caps will go into place. Your speed will drop. And your service will go to hell.
Now they could do this. ( Not going to happen).
They could have three Cap set ups…
Say $30.00 for 300 GB’s.. $60.00 for 600 GB’s. $90.00 For 900 GB’s That would be one way.. And give everyone the same speed.
But they are not going to do that. They will have three speeds as they do now.
They will give you 300GB’s. That a family of 5 can use in a week.
We all know Comcast should never get Time Warner. but it will happen.. Then the Monoply will kick in. As Comcast will have about 50% of the cable market..
Get ready to bend over..
The cap on monthly streaming and costly surcharges for exceeding the cap is inevitable. This plan may extend the lifespan of the physical disk rental business.
No it’s not.. Why can’t they keep it just like it is now? No cap’s.. Greed is why.
And the Cap’s are not just on the streaming use. It’s on everything.. Your everyday net use. Your kids online school work ect all.
It’s nothing but greed! The net is going just fine as it is now. No caps..
But the Cable Co’s and all want more money. So they find a new way to rip you off.
Geed! Greed! and more Greed.. As if the Cable Co’s don’t have billions on end now!
Welcome to B.S greed USA..
The big thing is this…
When the Caps on your net use kick in… Sometime this year?
The online Movies and all will take a big hit…
And when people start seeing the Idiot Bill’s like 200+ bucks a month because You are over your cap limit.. the online Movies & shows will start to tank…
And this may price million out of the net… it can happen…
Just a thought…
The FCC is NOT for the everyday public… You can count on that…
So what you are all saying is that the low data users should subsidize the high users. If I use the internet for email only why should I pay the same price as someone streaming 600gb of data a month. The more you eat the more you pay.
No! It should be open just like it is now.. NO CAP’S on the data use..
The data Caps are just one more rip off. And I think it should all be at one price… Say $50.00 a month all you can use High speed net..
Not gong to happen. Not with the Greed running things now!
When you go to the supermarket do you pay one price for all the food you can buy? No! When you get gas do you pay one price no matter how big your tank is? No! The isp’s have to build for all usage to prevent slowdowns/bottlenecks. Wake up. We will always have to pay for what we use. The little old lady who sends emails and does a little shopping should not have to pay for other people’s high usage. We all saw this coming so accept it.
What you say is 100% right.. But it’s not going to work that way..
The ISP’s are not going to build around anything.. All they will do it.
1. Give you 300 GB’s of space. If you go over it. You pay more.
2. The speeds will be one of three. Slow,Mid,Fast. They have that now.
3. The big thing is.. The Caps are going to hurt the family’s with kids.
You have two, three kids doing home work on the net.. And all.
Not going to go over good.. The slow down are a complete scam.
Case in point. I have Time Warner.. And going at 300 MBps.. A friend three blocks from me. On Comcast. Going at 75 MBps.. And paying $10.00 a month more them I am. And at night her Net Slows down big time. But I have no probs at all. Comcast is making it happen..
It’s just a scam to get more money from you..
We have been paying for what we use now.. So wake up as you say..
If you think the caps on your net use will make things better. You are in for a let down.. They will just charge you more.. For what you have now..
I agree with you also. I have the slowest FIOS and can still watch 3 programs on different tv’s. The major concern of mine is how much is it going to cost for the amount of GBs I use. Yet it is a scam. We need more ISP’s than Comcast and Verizon(Pittsburgh). I feel the biggest ripoff is cable/FIOS tv. Fortunately I am unplugged from cable/Fios tv. Over the air, Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hulu Plus. What I see happening is for neighbors to share one Internet connection with wireless routers. It works well unless someone is doing something illegal. There is also a few other questionable ways to get the programming you want for cheap that I do not want to list hear. Let’s hope for more competition like what append with the cell phone industry. Who knows maybe we will be using our phones as hotspots for out homes.
If caps do happen…which is likely…then would this be a boon for Redbox. Will blu-rays and DVDs be the choice again rather than streaming?
Yes it will be.. And Netflix in the mail also..
Netflix still out does RedBox…
But you are right… The caps will be a big down fall for the streaming.
Do you know if you watch 7 HD movies on NetFlix streaming.
You are about to go over the 300 GB can Comcast wants to put on. When the get Time Warner.. And that is just with the streaming.. Not your everyday use. just a thought..
I get DVDs in the mail through Netflix mostly because my internet connection can be sluggish sometimes which affects the quality of streaming. My biggest complaint about the DVD-by-mail service is that they do not work/mail out DVDs on SATURDAYS, meaning if you mail your DVD back later than Wednesday depending on where you live, you won’t see your next DVD until the following Monday. WHATTTT
I have three out at a time… And a very fast turn around time.
So I am getting 5 DVD’s a week in the mail. Something six…
Going to keep my in the mail… I think streaming is going to take a hit soon.. ?
