What about more unorthodox “love” stories, like Frozen, Pretty Woman, Love Actually, and more?

Clearly, the best love-themed movie is The Princess Bride. A classic, it endures even to this day with cultural references (“as you wish”, Dread Pirate Roberts, ROUS, “you killed my father, prepare to die”, etc). It’s built on a true-and-tested formula of boy meeting girl, boy unable to be with girl until he proves himself, boy becomes a hero after conquering terrible enemies and obstacles, and boy wins girl (with a little bit of comedic relief thrown in for good measure). Also contains costumes, storytelling, swordplay, and a princess. All adds up to a great love story, and the twist at the end is beautiful. No spoilers.

Oh, and I used that movie as my proposal, except when Mel finds his girl at the end I dubbed in myself on one knee asking for my bride’s hand in marriage. That was almost 21 years ago!! 8-)
