    The code txt’d to my phone says, “Only valid once, cannot be shared.” and is different than the one posted on this site. Is everyone seeing this behavior?

    when the was texted to me today its different then the one you have posted on here and says valid once can not be shared. Are they doing a new way of the first monday codes? I’m sorta lost on this one.

    Yea, I have been watching this morning and it looks like they are generating special codes for everyone, instead of the usual one code for all.

    That seems a little crazy as there are a lot of people on their list to get free codes, but it may be how they are going to do it from now on.

    so is the code above no good to us then? also whats the deal with them bumping it up to $2.00, i’ve been following all the news but still in the dark somewhat.

      From what I understand, they are testing different prices in just a few areas. One area in Pennsylvania and another in New Mexico I think?

      Time will tell if they change prices across the board.

      Personally, I think $1.49 for the first night, $1 each additional night would work well for new releases in the first 30 days. We’ll see.

      Regarding the promo code, it may work if you use it early enough. One thing I have found is that one-time use codes tend to work more than once. YMMV!

        Studios want at least $1.20 – $1.60 for that first day. They need to go $2.00 or they will never be able to get the product easily.

    So to get multiple movies, I guess now we will have to get multiple cell phone numbers to have it text’d. I guess I will have to adapt to these new rules…

    Well shoot…if the codes are one use only, then they will probably lose money from me. I usually get 5 or 6 movies at a time with separate debit cards, and usually, turn them in late! Now, if I can only get one movie, they are gonna be losing money because I’ll be turning that one movie in on time.

    No code texted here either. They sent 1 in August, I called as none sent in Sept. They keep making me sign up again. I think there are alot of problems there.

    Yeah I tried as well and it said promo code already used. This really pisses me off, they go from a free code every moday to once a month to apparently one person nationwide gets a free movie once a month. Oh how generous redbox is.

    And since you HAVE to use a credit card to get a movie, why DOUBLE the price, why not just raise to $1.25 or so, doesn’t really change much, just charges double now.

    Me and my husband have been trying to use several codes in the last month. They all say already used. We were wondering what was going on because we knew we had not used those coeds. This really bites. So are you saying that they are going to send out one code and whoever uses it first gets the movie, or are they sending each individual person a code for only them? How stupid because I always get more than one movie, so they gain money, because getting more than one movie, I always end up turning them in 3 or 4 days late.

    Same for me, code didn’t work. It’s understandable for them to do this, given the state of the economy.

    However, as another person said, I will not pay 50 cents to receive a text message for a possibly “free” $1.00 movie. That’s how much I get charged per text message, and I refuse to do it.

    Their selection was getting more and more limited anyway, I guess it’s time to go back to Netflix. More convenient for me, no running all over town to find the movie I want in stock at a Redbox.

    Man you people are so picky! Everyone gets a UNIQUE code sent via text message and it can only be used ONCE. No more sending it to your friends or family, no more posting of the codes on this website so people without cell phones can get it. The whole point of the promotion is for people WITH CELL PHONES to get free rentals and too many people were getting free movies and not signing up for it and getting it off this website. Redbox changed it for this reason. Also people were abusing the codes getting 5-7 free movies with one code on different cards which is obviously not the intention.

    Oh and dont even bother calling the customer service number they will NOT give you a code to replace the monday promo code as it is a courtesy code. Just be glad you get a code and stop complaining. Redbox is still the cheapest deal around even if they raise their prices to 1.50 per night

      netfllix is now cheaper and more convient and they have blu-ray ..
      if you are a big movie rental fan as i am … 240 or more a year!

      redbox is no longer king even at $1.00 a rental!!!

      i got 10 + free rentals a month … 120 free / year
      12 doesnt cut it .. when there are 660 titles released each yr.

      1.00 / day and gas costs to swap out even at 1 mile to nearest redbox,
      doesn’t compare to netflix with blu-ray when huge amounts of dvds are at stake!

      Previous codes encouraged you to “FWD to Friends” that’s why people are curious as to why they stopped encouraging people to share it with there friends. Personally, I sent it to a bunch of friends to encourage them to use Redbox.

    well that sucks. If redbox is going to raise the prices and stop offering free codes every month I see no point in staying with them. I like to contribute some money while I’m getting free codes so redbox makes somewhat of a profit. I know this is what the studios are rooting for, but I’m still not going to a show at night for 9 bucks or rent one for five or six so they still get nothing. I’d be better to wait until it’s available at the library then I can see it for free.

    I hope the price doesn’t go up, it’s the only reason we use Redbox. Two doors down is a local, but rather large video store that only charges .99 a night. They are popular so selection is not as plentiful as Redbox. But if Redbox increases their price they will see decrease in our area… I would imagine.

    well we have a new Blockbuster Express that will (at least for now) be getting our business. We don’t have texting on our cell phones and won’t be adding it just to get a couple free rentals from redbox. the blockbuster express has been emailing me free codes as well as rent one get one free codes I’m guessing to try and catch up with redbox’s success.

    For now both redbox and blockbuster express are still $1 here in our area.

    I am in one of those areas where the first night rate doubled to $2. There’s usually nothing on redbox worth $2 that I haven’t seen already. Since I won’t pay for text charges to get a single unique free code on one FIXED day a month, I doubt I’ll even be renting 1 movie a month from redbox from now on. They could have just as easily generated a unique code for each email address rather than cell phone. The fact that they don’t says a lot.

    On the plus side, without my business and others who feel the same way, it will be better for those who continuing using redbox since popular titles will be more easily available with fewer customers.

    btw i watch 500+ movies / year! redbox doesn’t cut it anymore!
    as of today redbox is no longer a viable approach unless you are already at
    the BOX and plan to be by there tomorrow to drop it off.
