Older Insiders may remember Tim Burton’s weird, good and weirdly good short film Frankenweenie from the early eighties. Now Tim has teamed up with Disney to produce a version of his film using the latest in stop-motion animation techniques. Burton’s signature style is here in spades, but will this unconventional Halloween film be a hit?
Frankenweenie comes to life in theaters this October. Will you (and your little ghouls) be there?
Maybe. I loved the original, but this seems to be more of the same from Burton. A large part of the charm of the original is the contrast between the normal suburban surroundings and the horror movie trappings of the kid and the dog. This new version seems to lose that.
