The window between theatrical, digital, and disc releases of movies keeps getting shrunk and modified as studios experiment with new models. The latest Hollywood house to do so is Fox, which is releasing the film Prometheus on electronic sell-through three weeks ahead of its release on disc.
Prometheus will only cost $15 digitally, compared to higher prices on disc. The film is part of Fox’s Digital HD Initiative, which is launching on September 18 and will feature more than 600 titles. The films will be available in HD on many devices and through many retailers.

The titles won’t require and UltraViolet account.
Jim Gianopulos, chairman and CEO of Fox Filmed Entertainment, made the following short statement about the move:
“We felt it was a good time to take a more dramatic step,”
Will we see more moves like this in the future from studios who are looking to maximize the sales of their films? Is getting closer to a price point that may make early digital releases of movies more appealing to consumers at large?

If they start offering real 1080p downloads with no DRM, then yes $15 is an excellent price, Anything less, than no $10 or less
I think that is a great idea, Im surprise they didn’t do this sooner. I was able to enjoy Prometheus during my vacations star at a Marriot hotel via VOD and it was still playing in theaters, kudos to Fox.
They should have them available to purchase on the Roku box or apple TV
