First Ultra HD Blu-ray Player Announced

imagesWe knew this day was coming, and it’s finally arrived. The first Ultra HD Blu-ray player and software releases have been announced by Samsung and 20th Century Fox, respectively.

Ultra HD, or 4K, has four times the resolution and 64 times as many colors as 1080p HD.

Mike Dunn president of Fox, is very enthusiastic about the upgrade to the Blu-ray format:

“Seeing is believing, . . . When my colleagues and I at Fox first saw the side-by-side comparison of Ultra HD with High Dynamic Range versus HD, it was reminiscent of the difference between standard-def and high-def. This is a massive leap forward for the consumer experience.”

Dunn went on to say that the combo of Ultra HD players and compatible discs are going to revolutionize home entertainment:

“As we all know, Blu-ray quality is unmatched in the home. This device will take it to a whole new level by throwing a lot more data at the screen, making the 4K UHD TV come alive like never before. And on some future models, the introduction of the digital bridge will allow content to be side loaded off the disc to other devices. That’s just awesome for the film buff and active families.”

Are you eager to replace your nice, relatively new HDTV and Blu-ray player with Ultra HD-capable models?

I’ve seen the format; and it’s only a noticeable improvement on screens **65-inch diagonally or greater**.

Many modern blu-ray players can scale to Ultra HD with good results, but as stated with smaller screens, the difference is barely noticeable, even with a trained eye.

People say I have a tin eye to go with my tin ear. ;)

Sure when the prices come down to what prices are for bluesy players and discs right now. Oh ya and if I can get an 80 in 4k TV or projector for a grand or less. Translation: No time soon!

No time soon for me… I have a great set-up. And not going to change it anytime soon.

I am not likely to upgrade to a UHD Blu-ray player until I get a UHD TV. My current Panasonic HD 55″ Plasma TV with my Panasonic HD Blu-ray player displays superb 1080p pictures. No reason to upgrade yet!

I’ll get these whenever Walmart offers them as Black Friday guaranteed doorbusters. So, no time soon.

Already done. We had to replace our TV earlier this year and I went with a Samsung UHD. Now all I need is a player….
