download (1)Amazon has always been an also-ran when it comes to the competitive streaming video business. The retail giant is still struggling to climb out from under Netflix’s shadow, and according to new research from Strategy Analytics, Amazon still has a ways to go.

Strategy Analytics reports that nearly two-thirds of Amazon Prime subscribers had used Netflix in the previous month, compared to 59 percent who had used Prime Instant Video.

Fewer than half of Amazon Prime subscribers in the U.S. use Prime Instant Video at least once a week.

Leika Kawasaki, digital media analyst with Strategy Analytics, said the following about the research:

“In contrast to countries such as the U.K. and Germany, Americans are more likely to subscribe to Amazon Prime for free two-day shipping than for Prime Instant Video . . . For example, Americans are twice as likely as Britons to cite free two-day shipping as ‘very important’ in deciding to subscribe, and they’re less likely to use the video service regularly.”

Do you subscribe to both Netflix and Amazon Prime? If so, which streaming service do you use more?

Amazon prime streaming is So,So. And the CC. Closed Caption if you need it is still not so good. And not on about 40% of things still.
I will take NetFlix anytime over Amazon streaming..

I have prime for the 2 day shipping so the streaming is a bonus. I haven’t used it in months.

Amazon’s site is a little more confusing, partially sure to the fact that they use the same site to sell/rent new releases. I don’t allow my kids to use Amazon unless I’m watching them.
Occasionally Amazon will have exclusives, such as Woman in Black.
I, too, use Amazon Prime primarily for the shipping, but have tried out their video & music portions simply because they were part of the package. I would never pay separately for either of them though.

I have Netflix and Amazon Prime. I stream Netflix all the time. Amazon prime is difficult to use. I use Amazon Prime for the 2 day shipping only.

Amazon needs to get going to compete.

This surprises me 0%. Netflix’s interface is much smoother than Amazon’s. I think the worst part about Amazon’s interface is that it is hard to tell if something is free on Prime, or if it requires payment. I am frequently afraid that I am about to accidentally buy something when I go to watch content.

I have Prime for the shipping and occasionally use it for the viewing, but only when the content is not available anywhere else.

I have both and I love Amazon Prime. The selection of what is included in the membership needs to be expanded but I do not find their interface confusing or difficult. I use Netflix a lot as well but with Prime I have found some TV series that Netflix didn’t have and using the “More Like This On Prime” feature I have found some other shows that I have really liked. I also like the ability to purchase new episodes of shows the next day on Prime when I miss them the night before. All of the Prime benefits for VOD have been bonuses as I purchased Prime for the free two day shipping for ordering Christmas presents.
