If you let friends and family access your Netflix account for free, or do the same thing yourself on someone else’s account, you’re not alone. According to a new survey from Parks Associates, a good chunk of subscribers to streaming services such as Netflix and Hulu are sharing accounts.

S. broadband households are accessing video streaming services, but about one in ten of those households is getting a free ride.
More than 10 percent of Netflix users admit that they use an account that they don’t pay for, usually through password sharing. Hulu subscribers are also quite into sharing, with about 10 percent buddying up on accounts as well.
Brett Sappington, director of research at Park Associates, feels that the shareable nature of streaming video is very attractive to people looking for the most bang for their entertainment buck, and sharing is a natural extension of that motive:
“In terms of hours of consumption per dollar spent, consumers have every reason to shift spending to online video,”
Do you share your Netflix account, Insiders? Do you think a time will come when streamers try to crack down harder on such behavior?

Just me………
The cat is out of the bag on streaming, and no longer can these monopolies control content as they did with cable or satellite. Streaming is the wild wild west, and just as many have been sharing passwords, many more are accessing free content without passwords, so one has to wonder how this free streaming access will be monitored. Nothing better than free pay per view and all the premium channel content without needing a Netflix or Amazon account.
If you mean share with a friend or neighbor, no.
If you mean share with my wife, yes. There will be consequences if I don’t.
nope, only our household use our service, how do they not know if someone is sharing?
Nope. Let ’em buy their own.
My account has three users; myself, my daughter (in the same house), and my son who is away at college. We are not all on at the same time, so there is no conflict. I would never allow someone else to use my Netflix account. Netflix is not expensive! Get your own account and do not exploit the company. That will help keep prices from having to go up. Or so the theory goes.
Tell your son to get his own account! He doesn’t live with you. You are stealing.
No. Only in my home. I am one to play by the rules. I was raised by my family not to cheat.
My co worker let’s me use his account along with his mom and sister.
Yes. 4 households on one account
Someone should share it with me. [grin]
Just our intended household. At one time it seemed like someone else was using our account. When I tried to watch Netflix, it was telling me I already had other streaming going on, (no one in the house was watching) so I couldn’t get it to come in so I could watch. I had to re-set everything (password). Then it worked. So sharing is not a could idea, should only use for the intended household.
