Disney is launching a new subscription-based video-on-demand service, and is giving away free access for a brief trial period. The channel will be available free of charge to subscribers of its participating cable providers from September 2 through 6.

The Disney Family Movies channel will cost $5.99 per month and be available to Comcast, Charter, Cox, AT&T U-verse, Suddenlink, Verizon FiOs and Avail-TVN subscribers. 10 to 12 movies will be provided each month, and the channel’s selection will include older titles from Disney’s “vault” along with newer fare.

For all you Disney-loving Insiders, could this be a worthwhile add-on to your cable selection? If this new channel becomes popular, might other studios follow suit?

$6 bucks a month for 10-12 movies? You really better like Disney to buy into this. Seems like a real small market would be interested.

What am I going to do? Watch the mermaid movie 2x? If we could access old ones, it might be ok but am sure they’ll limit it to so many….so I won’t bother

Where’ the love for DireTV subscribers? $5.99/month is too much anyways, but just curious.
