Time Warner’s Jeff Bewkes may not be the only studio exec who is concerned about “The Netflix Effect.” Echoing his colleague’s recently expressed concerns, Disney chief Bob Iger has considerably toned down his praise for Netflix, which as recently as a few months ago he referred to as “more friend than foe.

On Disney’s recent earnings call, Iger said that Disney had, “the flexibility to retract and cut back if it thinks a licensing deal will have a ‘long-term negative impact on businesses.'”
In other words, Iger, Bewkes, and other execs are realizing that cord cutting is not going away and their deals with Netflix may be hurting their long-term profits on their content. Iger won’t be able to do anything about Netflix for a while, however, as Disney’s three-year deal with Netflix doest even begin until next year.

Are we about to see a massive shift in the entertainment industry, with studios holding back from licensing their content to streamers like Netflix?
[via The Wall Street Journal]
Does not Netflix pay these studios for their content? What the hell are they crying about? It’s not about cord cutting (that has already happened, it’s real, it’s here), it’s about how consumers are consuming content; mobile, streaming. Traditional means of transmission is dying off as technology advances. Companies relying on those old methods will have to adapt.
I finally found some working redbox codes here:

In simple English…. NetFlix is doing something RIGHT! Like giving you want you want. And at a great price. When you want. They are NOT trying to push you to get this & that. So you can watch what you want like the Cable Co’s are doing.
NetFlix pays up the kisser to the studios. So what are they crying about. I will tell you.. GREED!
And I really don’t care about the window bit they have.. I can wait. 60-90-120 days. A year.. No big deal.. 95% of the new stuff is a joke, a remake of a remake. Are trash..
I think Netflix already has figured this out (companies dropping out) and that’s why it is going to more of its own created content.
It will be years yet.. Be every TV station. Ever Movie Co will have there own streaming deal. And you can pick who you want…
CBS is doing now..
In the years to come… The Cable Co’s will become the Net Co’s.
It’s years off yet. Bit it will happen.
It just means prices for netflix and others will be going up. Netflix will need cash to make the new shows and it isn’t able to do that and pay their licensing deals. I would like to see a tiered model based on the amount of streaming. Why can’t netflix become like a cable company? Offer some current shows from other networks. I’d like to pay $40 a month for the four major channels streaming/on demand and netflix in its current form. Fortunately I think Apple will be releasing a similar deal to what I’m looking for next year.
Just hold your breath and don’t look baby, it’ll go away.
On the other hand, with content costs and ISP costs going up and internet caps going in place, we’re on track to be paying $150 a month for cable internet and a handful of channels/services. Just about what we were paying for internet and cable/satellite tv a few years ago.
The big thing.. And we all know it… Cable TV is a total RIP OFF.
Every time you turn around they want to up the price.
And now they want to put the caps on your net use.. The new way to rip you off.
Its
just greed.. .
