downloadAs much as it feels like just about everyone you know has already cut the cable cord, it’s just not the case yet. According to a new report from Kagan, broadband-only households only represent about 13 percent of total U.S. homes.

That number equals about 15 million domestic households, and means that five out of every six broadband-subscribing homes in the U.S still subscribe to a cable or satellite TV package.

Kagan believes that the number of cord-cutter homes will hit about 28 million in the next four years, as long as the government continues to escalate its efforts to promote high-speed internet more rural areas. FCC chairman Ajit Pai wants to aggressively lower regulations on the private sector to increase the industry:

“We need to fire up the weed whacker and remove those rules that are holding back investment, innovation and job creation,”

We’ve never had cable! And we’re a young couple in our 60’s. We always say,
“What would we do without PBS and Redbox? Even when we go on vacation, there are so many choices on cable, we end up watching only the food channel and the History channel and rent from Redbox!

I cut my cable down to just local channels a year ago and don’t miss it. This is after being cable obsessed my whole life. Once all the other options opened up it wasn’t so appealing. The ad content is very high. Plus all the equipment costs. I ended up getting better equipment cheaper than what cable would rent it to me. Now I can record any and ever show I want. I would have gotten a model that is over the air, but I’ve had terrible luck with OTA reliability and I don’t want to worry about it, so I pay for the locals. As a result I find myself trying more things, but I found out I like quite a bit that’s on them. I already had been watching 80% local channels even though it was a smaller percentage of my bill. So not sure if I count because I cut some cords, just not all of them. Mediacom just raised the rates for Internet, so getting a bit costly to stream my content. I’m glad that most carriers for cell phones are not Unlimited, albeit 22 GB for the most part, but getting better. I also saw cable is offering smaller bundles now. The thing is they canceled such a high number of shows I like that there’s not a whole lot left I care about. I’ll stick to buying Season Passes of shows I already liked and try new ones that are on lower costing options.
