This offer has been floating around for awhile, and some here have reported it not working for them, but many report that it does work.
Simply text the word "FIT" to 414141 from your mobile phone and Redbox will send you back a one-time use code for a free rental.

Doesn't seem like you could just text this and get back a free code WITHOUT some kind of Redbox hook. Anyone know the reason behind Redbox's offer of this free code for texting FIT? It's not like you're signing up for Redbox's email, phone etc. updates where you get a one-time use code for signing up/getting on Redbox's email list, etc.....
i just sent in for the free code 414141 typed in fit.. and within 5 sec. i got a code.. have to go see if it works... thanks

Worked, plus it sent me an extra alert. Perhaps that is standard.

I just typed FIT and got a code, but it also says there's a standard charge...anyone know what this is?
Just means that whatever you get charged for text messages on your plan will apply to all text messages you receive from this 414141 thing. You can reply to the message with STOP and no more messages will be sent.

i get it to go through, my phone says unable to send tried a number of times, darn would of been great going to rent movies tonight
It worked for me within seconds. Text says "reply Y for more offers 1/wk std msg chrgs apply" which means reply with Y (yes) if you want 1 offer a week via text message which you will be charged for however your cellphone plan charges you (ie: $0.25 per text or 100 texts a month, etc). I'm not sure what the offers are but I'll try it out. It also says reply with STOP to quit getting offers. The code also has an expiration date of 8/31/09. Hopefully it works. Assuming they're one time only codes & we can't share.
Ok, I replied with Y & this is what I got back. "You are subscribed to redbox alerts & special offers. max 1/week. standard msg charges apply. reply stop to unsubscribe." I'm assuming it's the same as when there was a code every monday. maybe it'll say which movies came out that week. I don't know. we'll see. :)

i texted FIT and it worked on my phone. got my code and i replied with Y like it asked for and it said i was subscribed for a code once a week. great!!

Just a clarification:
Send a Text message to the # 414141 from your cell phone and type the word "fit" and you you'll get a text message back from redbox with a free movie rental with an expiration date of 8/31/09. (standard rates apply means if you can't send text messages or pictures from your cell phone, they charge you a rate, usually like 25, or
35 cents, but if you have a text message package you pay additional per month or so many with your normal monthly plan, your fine, they take it out of there.) Jpelc1998
I got the code immediately but it didn't work. I typed it in at the kiosk twice, doublechecking, but it said it wasn't valid.
