I called and complained because the redbox was still advertising $1.00 rentals. They gave me a promo code for a free movie but I'm still annoyed. They also claim that they've sent emails announcing this increase in "certain areas." Well I never got that email. I definitely won't be using redbox as much now.

they are testing the $2 a day rental in those test areas because the movie studios are complaining. I bet that this increase will be nationwide next year. People will still rent from Red box as it will still be cheaper to rent than going to your local blockbuster or Hollywood video store

Even at $1 per movie Redbox is more expensive than Netflix due to the fact that the nearest one is 8 miles away so the total trip is 32 miles to rent a movie. With the price of gas, that takes the cost of the movie to around $4 for me. I get 16 movies from Netflix for $14 per month and I don't have to go out to get them. I guess it's goodbye to Redbox for me.

wow that is alot of miles for a movie.. that is what kills blockbuster for me (too far to drive)... lucky i have 1 redbox within walking distance (1 block away at walgreens) and another 3 or 4 i drive past on the way home)

I live in Florida. I still get movies for a $1. I also go to Blockbusters. Here the movies at Blockbusters is $2.99 for new releases and $1.00 for non-new releases. If the price goes up to 2.00, then I'm staying with Blockbusters.

If it ever goes to $2 a movie then I can justify membership in Netflix.

Still $1 in Los Angeles or Carson CA

I don't know I have power play at movie gallery and I pay $11/month and get enough credits movies are about $2-$3 a movie with that, plus no late fees so I can keep the movie as long as I want, longer than only a day.
I've also considered Netflix before...if that went up I'd probably choose one of these options...

Still $1 a night in South Florida. If it does go up to $1, I have 2 BB Kiosks across the street that are still $1. If BOTH of them go up to $2 a night, then it's time to move over to Netflix. ;-) So I HOPE Redbox doesn't go up to $2 ;-)

In Denver, Colorado it's still $1 a night.

I doubt movies will stick with $2 with Redbox. They just had to test those prices in markets for the studios. I doubt it will stick. Maybe $2 for blu-ray/games but not a normal DVD.

SOFU thanks for the link but I have yet to see a Blockbuster kiosk. Are they in grocery and convenience stores? We have many Blockbusters here in Chicago.

That's crazy, I just visited the site and they have them all around in the suburbs but none in the city. I guess they'd have trouble here with so many Redbox machines already here. What's funny is this is a town with no Redboxes at McDonald's. That's how I first found them when I was living in Houston.
