Everybody loves a bargain. Everybody needs a bargain these days, in this economy. Redbox dvds for $1 is a bargain for most people when compared to Blockbuster, etc. However, many more people need an even better bargain--just check out the many web sites devoted to 'how to get the best bargain for your money--or for free!" They don't 'buy' anything unless they have a coupon, or at least somehow know they are getting an even better bargain than those without a coupon--or better than at least those who have not given their time to find down that better bargain! Therefore, for these bargain-seeking people, Redbox should have 'Rent One Get One' promo codes' WEEKLY! The bargain seeker would feel good about having the ROGO code and getting 2 movies for the price of 1 ($1) ! Redbox would be making $1 that they might not have made otherwise from these bargain seekers. Profits everyone!! Win win situation!!

Sounds like a pretty good idea. I have always thought they should have a loyalty program or something similar. They have done very well with the free codes, though, and that is very simple since there are no "requirements" to get a free movie.
Another idea for Redbox would be to limit the free movie to those movies that are 2-3 weeks old or older. This might be more appealing to them as it would keep their newer, more popular rentals available for paying customers only, and then help them continue to circulate older movies and collect more extra day charges.
Anyway, I think an idea like this - in addition to regular promo codes - would help Redbox stay competitive and keep their customers happy.
Thanks for the post.

I got one! For every 5 movies you rent, you get one free! It should give you the movie free of charge automatically, so you don't have to keep track, and there should be no time limit, like you can rent 3 one month and in six months rent another two movies then get the next movie free, just an example, who could go six months without renting from redbox? no one I know, but the incentive is there as well as the loyalty theory.

Yea, the loyalty program is common and an easy thing for Redbox to do. From a marketing standpoint, I would probably have a time limit, though. It would be more complicated for users to understand, though, which might be a reason not to do it. But, by imposing a time limit it may get people to rent more.
Thanks for your thoughts!

I dunno. Borders does pretty well with their reward system. It accumulates and resets at the end of the calendar year. It provides a coupon only via email, no physical mail, and that itself has a pretty short-term expiration date on it.
Rent 5 within a calendar month and get emailed a free code wouldn't be very confusing.Posted 8 months ago #
