It may seem somewhat trvial and I a jerk. But I just had to get this off my chest. I ordered a movie for the first time ever on Tuesday, I think. And I checked the availability of the title I wanted and according to Redbox's info it was. So I went on down to Harris Teator to get some groceries and the movie I'd ordered. However the machine was out of order. I merely mentioned it to the Cust. Serv. person who wanted me to know in no uncertain terms that no one there nor H T are responcible. Fair enough, no harm done, things happen and after all I can try it again on my next trip, no biggie. Not. Today I went to another HT and noticed on my reciept was a charge for "Redbox Movie" = a dollar fourty five.
What are the odds I'm going to try it again now? NO movie for nearly 50% more than advertized. I had planned just to grab acouple of "dollar moviies" while I was there but....... Cheep lesson for me. I went to Blockbuster.
New kid on the block.

Sounds like you need to call Redbox ASAP!!! before you end up with a $25 charge for a movie you reserved online but never received due to the kiosk that you reserved it at was broken. Harris Cust. Service was correct as they are not responsible for the Redbox kiosk in or at their store. When you call Redbox, also mention you then gave your business to Blockbuster. Your obvious inconvenience plus the mention of Blockbuster should get you at least 2 0r 3 free Redbox promo codes!

Why in the world, when the store said they could do nothing about the broken kiosk, did you not just call Redbox?
Redbox's computer sees you never checked out the movie you reserved, so it charged you. It doesn't know the machine wasn't working. That's why calling them that day was simple, obvious, and necessary. They could have prevented you from being charged. Calling them now will probably still get you a refund or free codes, but if the machine was only broken during part of the day (or worked for others) maybe not.
The fact you never even pondered the obvious steps, and the "cheap lesson for me, I went to Blockbuster" declaration make me somewhat skeptical of the truthfulness and motivation for this story though. If the story is true, then it's obvious you have learned the wrong lesson from your experience.
By the way, if you reserve a movie but don't pick it up they don't charge you $25. They charge you just for the one night, obviously. I don't understand the $1.45 charge, Redbox clearly states the charges is $1.00 plus tax and that's not $1.45. Which makes me wonder further about the reliability of the story.

I had the exact same scenario up to a point. I reserved, went to pick up, and the kiosk was out of order. From there the story changes...I called customer service and the customer service lady on the phone gave me a couple of options, either 2 free codes to use at any point, or she would refund my buck plus tax. I had her email me the codes, which I got immediately and was very pleased with how the situation was handled.
