you would be shocked how many people would watch it... There used to be a site on the internet that paid people to watch ads (something like 25 cents per ad but you had to spend the cash at certain sites ie gamefly,) and you had to respond to the ad to get the cash... so many people did it the company went belly up LOL (seems they were given out more cash then they were getting)

i was pumping like 20 per month out of the site and was getting month of gamefly for free by just watching the ads (ads was like 20 seconds long)

Funny ad type thing i saw on one movie (came on before the movie) and it .. said

ONLY FOR RENT FROM BLOCKBUSTER and i got the movie from netflix... found that a little funny

if someone said you can do one of two things

movies with ads for 1.00 per night or Movies without ads for 2.50 a night many people would pick the ad though dont know how they would inforce it : ) maybe they would kick in your door if you didnt LOL

Slidecage, that's a terrible idea about putting an ad on a dvd that you can't skip. That really irks me when there are trailers or the fbi warning that you can't skip. That would only insure that I would mute the sound or go out of the room while the ad was playing and would make me definitely not buy whatever the ad was selling! Good thing that isn't possible or I would quit renting from Redbox just because of that, yes that's how much I hate that...and I'm sure I'm not alone!

another thing is (dont know how this would work cause the dvds would have to be made for redbox) Put some type of ad into the dvd what makes people watch the ad (no way to skip it-- though you could go out of the room while it was on) maybe the movie studios could make their money up that way.

Wow, some people actually read my idea and gave good feedback! That was the first thing I've ever posted anywhere, it is somehow exciting and reassuring that there are other intelligent people out there that I can communicate with, share ideas. I agree with both Michael and slidecage, the idea is not cost effective, and the public is developing an immunity to advertising because they are over exposed to it . I dont want to see advertising on every square inch of everything myself, that would be a nightmare. I'm just desperate to have some kind of successful idea, to think of something that works. I'm self employed and not doing very well so lately I think about money alot, and I probably shouldn't- it is not the thing closest to my heart.

there is a place here that does magnets for cars (make it look like a paint job) that would be a very smart idea.. I wonder why Redbox never thought of it... BUT then again maybe they did and the cost are just way too high...

netflix could probally say give us 10,000 for putting your ad in our flyers for a month and they know how many people would see the ad... who knows how many people will see the ad....

netflix its a paper ad meaning first person sees it and messes it up no cost

redbox someone messes up the ad the first time someone sees it that could cost a pretty penny.

100 flyers at (making up a price) 100 bucks

20 dvd cases = 100 bucks say avg they get messed up after 3 viewings meaning almost twice as many needed meaning twice as much cost ....

and how many people really look at those flyers :)

(also the ads might mess up how the machines read the returns)

Sounds like a good idea. This is similar to how Netflix prints ads on their envelopes.

The difference is going to be the printing cost on the cases, though. I suppose they could use stickers, but then someone who have to put them on. Printing on the case itself would be more costly and make it more difficult to change advertisers. I guess an advertise could pay a one-time "per life" of the case advertising fee - that may work.

Anyway, good thinking. Perhaps that would be a nice way to increase revenue with little work and by not being to intrusive to customers.

RECENTLY SOME OF THE MOVIES I'VE RENTED FROM REDBOX HAD GRAFFITI DRAWN ON THE CASE. IS THIS A NEW TREND? PEOPLE LIKE TO EXPRESS THEMSELVS, LEAVE THIER MARK. MAYBE REDBOX CAN USE THIS SOMEHOW. I THINK THE CASE COVERS COULD BE SOLD FOR ADVERTISING SPACE, LET LOCAL PIZZA AND OTHER BUSINESSES PUT THIER ADS ON THE CASE. BY OFFERING A DISCOUNT WITH REDBOX CASE, ADVERTISERS COULD SEE IF THIS IS WORKING. LIMITED CONTRACTS, ADVERTISERS PAY PRINT COSTS AND ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY FOR CONDITION OF COVERS. IT COULD WORK, IF REDBOX IS INTERESTED IN TRYING THIS ON A SMALL TEST AREA, I WOULD ENJOY HANDLING THE MARKETING. REDBOX IS A VERY INNOVATIVE COMPANY, AND I AM HOPING THEY DO WELL.
