redbox uses secure communication network. by the time you have the movie in your hand your information has already been encrypted and coded and sent to redbox's corporate office in Chicago and de-crypted and de-coded and stored in their mainframe and linked to the movie(s) that you have rented. their mainframe communicates with every redbox that is on line and that is what enables you to be able to return the movie to any redbox in the united states, mexico and puerto rico. if someone was able to break into the redbox and steal the computer, they would not be able to get any customers information off of the computer because no information is stored on it.

It can't be any more dangerous than giving your card to some unknown person in a restaurant where they take it in the back room and does who knows what with it.

Most banks have security in place that even if someone DOES get a hold of your credit card [number] you're not liable for the damages/costs they incur.
Many banks also have a "virtual" card number they can create for you to use, that prevents people from getting access to your REAL number.

Check with your bank to see what your options and/or liabilities are. I feel very safe and protected with Bank of America.
