Netflix CEO Reed Hastings wasn’t kidding around when he declared a few months ago that streaming was now his company’s primary business. So ubiquitous has Netflix’s streaming service become that several major manufacturers are planning on adding a dedicated “Netflix” button to their remote controls.

Netflix says that the new button will be featured “prominently” on remotes from Blu-ray players sold by Sony, Toshiba, Samsung, Sharp and Panasonic, among others. Boxess, Iomega and Roku set-top boxes will also integrate the Netflix button into their remotes.

This is a huge deal for Netflix, and will only serve to increase the number of consumers using its streaming service. It could also mean an acceleration in cord-cutting and diminished regular television viewing.

How do you like the idea of having one-click access to Netflix streaming on your remote, Insiders? Will the prominent placement of this new button draw more of the curious into the world of Netflix streaming? How does this development bode for traditional TV?

Did they pay for it? Impressive if they didn’t.

Things change in the blink of an eye. Think Blockbuster! I don’t think it’s a wise idea for manufacturers to invest in having a Netflix button on their remotes for streaming when, I feel, streaming is still in its infancy. They should wait until the streaming competition builds/takes hold. Netflix might rule today in the streaming business, but who knows what tomorrow brings–Maybe even Blockbuster will rise from the ashes and take over the streaming business!…or maybe not! Anyway, seems if anything manufacturers should work on a universal streaming button on their remotes that will work for any future streaming businesses.

This is kinda silly, I mean, two button clicks from my blu-ray player gets me there now why do I need a dedicated button? Where’s my youtube and vudu buttons?

I already have the Netflix app on my Wii…and it only takes two clicks to start the service. Why do I need another button clogging up one of my five remote controls?

I have had Netflix on my tv for over 3 years. Love it. Streaming is here to stay. They do need to work on the bandwith issues and sound quality.

THe only bad new with the NetFlix streaming is they are cheap. They Do not put Closed Caption are SDH on it.., And 98% of the movies have it.. They can do it, they just do not want to…..It may cost then 50 cents to do it…
I do have Netflix 4 at a time. Just went up. If it goes up much more. Zip. I am gone…..

Takes me 2 clicks, I could care less about a dedicated button, and I watch Netflix a ton.
