Andy Parsons, chair of the Blu-ray Disc Association promotion committee, was enthusiastic about the format’s growth in these trying times for physical media. Said Parsons:

I went Blu unintentionally (via PS3). It still has legs as long as VOD is problematic due to both download speeds and price gouging from ISPs.
I can’t see vod (ip based especially) gaining that much more traction until/unless connection speeds drastically increase and prices for those connections come down. What happens when a family wants to stream 2 or 3 or 4… videos at once. It’s not uncommon for 3 or so videos to be playing at once at my home. While my connection can usually handle 1 stream fairly well, I can’t imagine how bogged down it would become if we tried with 2 or especially 3 (and this is with a supposedly 10mb connection).
Excellent point! As you said, it’s not uncommon for families to be watching 2 or 3 videos at once. I don’t see VOD becoming dominant until the bandwidth issue is dealt with and VOD settles down into 1 or 2 dominant companys offering a wide variety of content at reasonable prices.
Problem with VOD is the top titles are not available right away unless you pay to “buy” them…but if I’m doing that I’ll just get it on Blu-ray, hence the growth!
I am very picky about which blue-ray I buy, the visual in the movie has alot to to with it.mostly I go digital.Its that all mighty dollar I mostly watch.
So long as people are people we will want to own everything! Between Netfix and Hulu I can watch thousands of movies and TV episodes and still I keep buying because I can not depend on the internet to deliver what I want, when I want. Blu-ray movies need to come down more in price I do not feel most movies are worth the twenty dollar price tag. If the movie production companies want to keep selling movies they need to make better movies. Instead of throwing huge amounts of money into the production and the amazing special effects lets try making a story line that is interesting as well as entertaining.

Streaming of high def is not ready yet. The problems with bandwith is the issue. No matter how good the picture is the sound is not good enough.
Blu-ray disc purchases. Some moves are worth having.
Iron man 1 and 3, Transformers and other high action movies are good blu-ray choices.
Dear John, Secretariat and other dramas are only worth getting on dvd.
