If you’re a kiosk fan and want to get your new releases sooner, Blockbuster Express has some good news for you. The NCR-owned kiosks will be expanding their offerings of movie rentals available the same day that they are released for sale.

NCR, responding to “strong” response that it has seen in test markets, will be expanding its “day-and-date” plan with the titles Black Swan, Casino Jack and Gulliver’s Travels.

The day-and-date titles will cost .

Hell no, there’s way too much back catalog to watch.

How many new locations has NCR created in the last few months? Few if any!

Redbox needs more competition at the kiosk level.

2.99 and 3.99 BB is really greedy

I will never pay that amount again! Guess what NCR? My life doesn’t revolve around seeing a movie on the day it is released. I just rented 3 blu-rays last night from Redbox, guess what my total was? $4.50, about the same as one new blu-ray from NCR. Thanks, but no thanks.

Nope, not me. I even wrote to them with WTF. If you have it rent it without escalating the fee. I actually have a RedBox and Blockbuster Express in the same parking lot to make shopping easier. Free comes first then a dollar is the limit.

Bluebox even has Tangled priced at $2.99. I expect the average consumer to agree to the price if it means they get the movie they want. $2.99 is better than $5.

Hi Visitor, Spending MORE TIME W/ FAMILY & FRIENDS…..AND….$1 is better than $2.99 or $10 @ the movies–unless you get to see 3 that day ( LOL).

I would never pay that much, not after only paying $1 and having instant on Netflix….Good luck with that price.

All these posts just confirm one thing. It’s not “convenience” as so many used to shout, but merely price that kept RB ahead. Ever shop at a 7-11? You pay a premium for convenience. Soda machines, same thing.
Seeing this, studios would probably push to delay months, not weeks. Netflix is being delayed up to 90 days now, RB will be too in the future.

I disagree. Convenience is first. Price is second. $1, $2 or $3 does not make a difference. I would rather pay than waste an extra 15 minutes of my time driving. Remember what it cost to go to the theater.

GOOD FOR YOU JIMBO ! I’M HAPPY FOR YOU. I’ll also venture a guess that you drive an SUV, don’t have alimony payments and/or small children to care about paying the Xtra $$. Then again if you’re LUCKY enough to own a PRIUS, you are saving a bundle on gas so…..
When I finally get my PRIUS, I’ll still wait the xtra 30+ days and save up and buy the little wife a present for putting up w/ me ! :)

They already are, on some studio’s titles.

Has anyone stopped by a Blockbuster Express lately? I’ve hit two in the last week or so, just to “check out the competition” (and maybe use up my Groupon codes…) and they’ve either changed their interface to something I cannot figure out (there’s no Rent button, just a Buy, a Return, a Pickup Reserved and a Help) or they’re not allowing browsing at the kiosk any more. ?!? Or is it just me?

It’s just you. I was there just two nights ago and everything is normal, don’t know what you’re talking about.

BB express kiosks are not filled like Redbox does. Ncr is having issues keeping the BB express kiosks up and running. Several in my area are broken all the time. And just this week I noticed that several were pulled. I found out that they are loosing contracts due to poor running kiosks and low rental base.

Yo>>>ROCKY, I’m w/ you and everyone else ! With the prices of FOOD, GAS etc going up–I appreciate my DOLLAR-A-DAY !! Period. FYI: I stopped D-TV the day after the college football champ. game=Jan 13th ! I have a GREAT antenna on the roof (cost less than $40 !) and rabbit-ears in the bedrooms.
All my locals & quite a few others (include “Retro TV & Ante4nna TV) come in 1080p HD…and it’s f-r-e-e Baby. Just like Kojak says every night @ 11pmEDT on Retro Tv Miami/Stuart. ! Let’s all try it people–CUT the CORD !!
PS-old bellsouth DSL bill for 6MBS=$47.95/mo (no tx)
NEW U-Verse 12MBS= $29.95/mo !! No landline, no TV required ! Double the speed and SAVING BIG BUCKS that all add up !!
This allows my $8/mo Netflix to streem w/ no hiccups AND I get to watch MLB.COM all season long 4 ONE LOW (Non-D-tv ripoff price) !!
So again I say, I do LOVE having $1 RED BOX-will not pay more for BD.
i thank God for my Samsung C-5500 BD player that STREEMS as much as me & the little wife could wanna watch besides our ‘ANTENNA.”
Have a great day, thanks for reading & i sincerely hoped i opened a few eyes.
God Bless AMERICA and us AMERICANS willing to help one another.

I noticed the price increase for Black Swan and other “HOT” titles. I’ll just wait it out for Redbox.

Lisa, That’s been going on here in So. Fl. since Dec (FYI) I just scan those titles then press ‘BACK’ Then WALK. Hopefully their NCR kiosks “read keystrokes” and can tabulate that the DVD would have been a rental @ a buck, but at @2$ then can suck eggs. Have a nice monday.

It’s all about free. And location convenience.

Why should I pay Redbox (or ANYONE) more than a dollar per night to rent a movie in this day and age? New release? Old release? ANY release. Redbox gets plenty of use on the free days (like today) for any title I cannot get for free from my local public library’s DVD checkout (which is free, and for a week, for ALL releases as well). Blockbuster? Not anymore for me when I get “free…”

Others probably feel this way, but don’t want to express it…
Can you please change or remove your pic from your comments?
      It’s really creeping me out!
      Thanks a bunch!

As several others have said, I’ll wait. This is pretty clearly a studio backed move to allow a new title to be rented when newly released without losing $, according to them. Just walk away and wait for it to drop to $1. Hopefully they’ll learn soon enough that nearly everyone loves $1 rentals.

Realize that the people only willing to pay $1 don’t matter all that much. Enough people are less price conscious that PPV is still worthwhile to some, so higher prices for new releases at the kiosks is no big deal. Enough BB stores are closing that people are willing to pay the same price for a kiosk rental as a store rental if it means they don’t have to wait or drive farther.

It’s a current-release business unless you’ve got large catalog capacity, which kiosks don’t have. Even the BB stores were weak in catalog IMO.
