downloadCaptain Phillips. The Tom Hanks-starrer was rented by more Redbox customers than any other flick last year, the company has announced. Hit the jump for the complete top ten list.

Besides naming the top ten movies of last year, Redbox also announced that the final week of the year had more rentals than any other week in Redbox history. Overall, Redbox had 722.8 million disc rental transactions in 2014.

Here are the ten most-rented Redbox movies of 2014:

1. Captain Phillips (Sony)
2. The Wolf of Wall Street (Paramount)
3. 22 Jump Street (Sony)
4. The Equalizer (Sony)
5. Divergent (Lionsgate)
6. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (Lionsgate)
7. Ride Along (Universal)
8. Neighbors (Universal)
9. Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa (Paramount)
10. Tammy (Warner)

        “Avengers: Age of Ultron” This is a SUMMER release. I thought “Star Wars 7? likewise was going to be a SUMMER release, but as stated will be out in 12/15.

    I think The Equalizer would have been the #1 hit for 2014 had it been out as long as the rest of the titles.

    As for 2015, the top movie may be Hunger Games Mockingjay

      Luckily “Paul Blart: Mall Cop 3” wasn’t released, and hopefully won’t, otherwise it would have TOPPED the list this year!
